Default Cold-Air Intake

Hey guys, i'm finally started to mod my 05. Had to pay off a beater I bought for the winter months before I could start. I want to start off with a cold-air intake. http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...products_id=50 I was looking at that one because of the built in water bypass, I really don't want to get hydrolocked. So would you recommend that one? Anything else you have in mind? Anything I should look out for when installing? Thanks ahead of time.

I was thinking about getting the Nismo CAI, but after alot of research on this forum I decided that the JWT popcharger was the best bang for the buck. Easy install, sounds mean. $120 bucks. I also bought the UTR carbon fiber tube so the total price for my popcharger and tube was about the same as teh nismo CAI, but it adds a nice touch to the engine bay and performs just as well as the other CAI's on the market. Hope this helps.

Yeah I was looking at the JWT Popcharger myself. I'm looking to mod my car up for HP more than just sound. From the research that I have done, the Injen RD intake produces the best results. But I have also found that the JWT does around the same and I have seen 1 that actually produced better results than the Injen.
AdrenalineFX51: how many miles do you have on your '05? Are you going to void out the factory warranty with the mods or no?

The new Injen CAI SP1985 blows away the popcharger now in power gains. And i wouldnt worry about hydrolocking your car... unless u plan to go submarine diving in your car.
Oh and no will not void the warranty. No mod can void your warranty unless something happens to the car and they can put full blame on that mod.

Little under 2000 miles. I'm not going to go overboard with the mods so I don't think i'll void warranty, but honestly I didn't read up on it yet as i'm just starting to feel out what I want to do.. I want to do Intake, exhaust, then worry about rims and whatnot later. I want to do performance first.

For what I have been told only Nismo S-Tune products will not void out the warranty and you have to have Nissan install it for you. Doesn't leave but so much you can do, so I decided to hook up the visual first. I think you will be ok with the Nismo intake but check the forums on warrany void!

Ok well you heard wrong. It is a LAW that states they cannot void the warranty unless they can prove that the mod actually did mess up whatever they claim. So i dont understand how a catback exhaust would void it.. or a Injen CAI, unless u totally submerge the intake in water, but then your whole engine would be in water and the hyrdolocking wouldnt matter now would it.. All that must be bought and installed by dealer is just way for them to make money.

The popcharge and old Injen CAI RD1985 were very close in gains, was hard to say who was better... I gained well over 8rwhp with the SP1985 over the RD1985.

Well I surely hope you are right! I want to mod my car but after talking to some of my friends whom sell cars and trying to get answers in a forum (here), they say it is basically parts that are aftermarket, not their product. Therefore if any aftermarket product is used in connection with their parts under warranty (i.e. the engine), their warranty is voided out! I'm still doing research myself, talking to others and will talk to Nissan so I'm not too sure

But I sure hope you are right Cloudy b/c I'm anxious to fix my ride up!

Same dyno yes, but i gave the RD1985 intake the benefit of doubt and dynod it when it was 20-30degrees colder. I should put together a donation fund to pay for the dyno, and i will do the RD1985 and SP1985 in same day lol.

Cool, what exactly is different about this vs the RD? I owned the RD before but went with JWT instead.

Basically all from what i could tell is. Instead of useing the stock MAF sensor tubeing. They built in a slot for the MAF to go into their own tubeing. Basically longer tubeing?

Is it like the K&N Typhoon that has a slot already on the intake for the sensor to bolt up to?

Yes, like that. Basically they have a slot that you screw the MAF into it, then just plug and go. Like how the APS TT is as well.
