Default Help: How to remove the plenum studs?

Hi,
I am installing my plenum spacer right now and the mounting instructions just say remove the 2 studs of the lower plenum. How will they come loose? Do I have to screw them, tap them out,...??

Please, need quick help

if you're not going to re-use the studs, i'd do it with a leatherman... maybe some WD-40

You need a Torx socket - good luck finding one. My advice would be to leave them in and don't put the nut on it. According to AAM, it not really needed.

You could take a pair of vice-grips to grab the top part (the Torx head) and unscrew it then replace it with a 35mm bolt.

I used a 4mm socket as per recommended by Tony at Motordyne, worked like a charm.

+1....but these are not hard to find....just go to Sears

buy the set or the one socket individually...there are other sizes in the set that you will need for the z anyways so i would recommend just buying the set of them

I got some Torx drivers from Sears but didn't see any sockets. Online, they've got some sockets listed but they all looked like larger sizes. The kits that seemed to include everything were in the > $100 range. I guess I'll have to stop in and look more closely.

Of course, we're probably not doing Bobby any good talking about Sears since he's in Luxembourg.

Dave, the 4mm works perfectly. Give it a try. Try to find like a 1/4 inch drive 4mm.

Now, I am pretty sure its 4mm..but it might be 5...I dont have it in front me of to confirm. But a 1/4 drive socket will work.

never have tried this....but these studs should not be that tight so it might work

the set of these sockets at sears was around 20 bucks if that...i think it was more like 15 or something. there is like a set of 4 for metric

I used a pair of vice grips. A Torx socket would have been better but, I didn't have one. (It's funny,I had one for the header studs when I installed them, but it dissappeared!) Once you get it out, replace it with a bolt.

You can also use the nuts to remove the stud.
Turn a nut upside down and screw it down 1/2". Then screw another nut right side up on top of it. Then tighten the nuts together with two open ended wrenches.

Once they are tightly together use an open ended wrench on the bottom nut to unscrew the stud from the plenum. It's really easy.

Thread is years old but I have to say thank you. And I thought I had enough common sense to be able to think of that on my own. THANKS!
