Just got Borla True Dual Exhaust installed
#25
I had my Borla TD installed in January and with the Injen Intake combo I am very pleased with the install, sound, and double takes. Best bang for the buck! Need to get the Cats replaced for that little extra umpf.... Crawford seems to be the choice??
Just make sure of the alignment, I got under the rack and surpervised!

I went back to the shop I got the exhaust from and they ordered another exhaust system right away, and this time, the RH was truely a right handed side pipe
Shame on Borla for that mistake. But in the end, I am very happy with this exhaust

Friend of mine is considering the Borla, GReddy Evo 2 and Nismo. Anyone know the respective hp gain claims for these exhausts? Been looking through posts and FAQ's all morning and not having much luck finding what the maufacturer claims are for hp gains.
Nice looking exhaust BTW...apologies for the hijack.

Sorry to hear that. The shop that I got it from was pretty good. I guess their supplier had many in stock. They ordered the replacement exhuast system on Monday and it came in on the Wednesday.

The True Dual Borla had a dyno sheet showing 23 HP gain. But don't expect that number unless you have their exact configuration. But Borla does have one of the highest HP gains.
Here are some #'s in order of ranking from Z Magazine:
PEAK HP:
1. Borla 8.2
2. Stillen 8.1
3. Injen 7.6
4. Nismo 6.3
5. 5Zigen -3.4
PEAK Torque:
1. Stillen 7.3
2. Injen 5.1
3. Nismo 4.5
4. Borla 2.7
5. 5Zigen 0.2

Well, I bit the bullet and had the Borla installed yesterday. My desire for it to even out the sound has been answered. It has a nice exotic sound all the way to redline without being boomy or raspy. The power increase is noticeable and acceleration seems smoother.
I do have a few complaints. The exhaust tips are sitting level, but the passenger-side one is tucked in more than than the driver-side one. I'm getting a rattle at the passenger rear, which leads me to believe the install could be to blame.
I also still get the fluttering noise I had before on in-gear decelleration only magnified a bit, but I'm told that this is caused by the headers.
I'm going to take it to my regular mechanic to have him inspect next week...I'm sure he'll be able to debug it.

Dude, that is way off! I would take it back and tell them to bang more on the left pipes to get it even. Make sure you tell them to loosen all the clamps before they start banging on the left side. Leaving the clamps on will do you no good when you are trying to push the left pipes tighter. You need to use a rubber mallet and bang each pipe together to squeze every last inch that it needs to go in together.
The place you took it to definately did a bad job!
He should have reused the orignal strap, no need to put on a new one.
Man, I feel bad for you. I'm getting upset and that's not even my car!

ZlleH, so the strap is actually supposed to be there? Well that's good I guess.
Yeah, It definitely needs some banging on...wonderful shop, eh?
They were upfront with the fact that they didn't like to install Borla's on 350Z's and couldn't guarantee a no rattle install but my regular installer was backed-up so I took a chance. Needless to say, I have an apt. with him next week...I couldn't run fast enough after the installer told me he cut and rewelded some other poor guys Borla to "make it fit right."

good to hear
This is the exhaust I am going to get, but I was also thinking of replacing the cats with test pipes. I hear the ones with the resonators in them really make the sound of the exhaust nice. It is very important to not have a ricey sound. I love the way the Z sounds stock and only wish to make it better with the Borla and the resonated test pipes.
