Default air filter experiment, scary-worth it

SO, being from chicago, it gets real cold here, and nothing is better then coldair, so my injen CAIhasnt come in yet so i wanted to try something as close to a CAI as possible. i popped the hood an took out the air filter and went for a 5 minute cruise , i wasnt gona go any longer, i was scared to begin with.

so i pull out and give it a shot and it almost felt like my low end was plummeting when all of sudden from 4-6800 the car sounded and moved great
car almost shut off on me once, ECU was prolly goin silly.

But yah, it was a good time i guess

hey, has anyoneremoved their pre muffler?
has it done anything?
sound nicer>?
move better?

yeah, no air filter is fun; but dangerous, 5minutes isnt bad, but as Im sure your aware, you cant do it for ever, youll junk up your engine eventually.

I remember one guy saying he removed his premuffler, and replaced it the next day. sounded better, but he noticed a loss in power; I guess it screwed up the backpressure timing on the exhaust release from the headers.

The problem is 5 minutes could be too much depending on what gets sucked through that thing. I've found some crazy stuff lodged in air filters before, so I wouldn't put it past the car to suck up an acorn or something stupid like that. =(

13 rear wheel hp. That's what no air filter is worth. This was on a car w/ 550miles on it.

Hope you didn't suck any road dust into your engine!

13 hp gain with no airfilter. then in theory an airfilter that is 1/2 as restritive as stock should get you @7hp gain. Maybe the K&N filter claim is not so questonable after al.

air intake temp the same for both runs.

gains are most likely from the extra opening in the airbox w/ the filter and lid removed.

Suprisingly the ecu didn't seem to object to the extra airflow. half expected for the ecm to freak and pull timing thinking something was wrong. Cannot wait to get rid fo the ecm and see what this motor can do unresticted.

Default wishful thinking

I removed the filter on the dyno, it was definitely not a 13hp gain.
