For those of you thinking about CAI....
Basicly the poster said the generic CAI was worse... thats not too surprising... as far pop chargers 6-7 hp gain? the dyno's I have seen show that gain all at the top end and like +1 or less hp for the rest of the curve... I am not "dissing" the popcharger or any CAI but people should understand where the gains are in the powerband.
in the popchargers defense I have seen several people say they got better times at the track with the pop-charger vs stock airbox.

NP, Zlleh, and they are a reputable source in my book too—just want to see our community have better data to make decisions. It seems like every other car forum out there has some very cut and dry info re: this mod=this much hp where the Z community is all over the place with everything. Everyone's experience seems to be different with each mod which can get very frustrating when trying to make any kind of decision!
I researched for two months on this forum and other forums and concluded the mods that I was going to do.
First year:
1. Popcharger (went with popcharger not for price, but to go along with the varis air duct)
2. Borla TD Exhaust
3. Motordyne plenum spacer
4. Varis air duct
Second year:
1. Lip
1. Rims
2. Tranny Cooler
3. Headers and cats (if there's still money left over)
Third Year:
1. Super Charger (but I am slowly wondering if twin turbo is the way to go)
I've stuck to my First year plan except the spacer. Do I regret anything? Maybe a little on the Exhaust, The Borla TD has the highest HP gains but it's Torque gain is average. I might have gone with the Stillin which has like the 2nd highest HP gains and also I think the 2nd highest torque gains. But then again, I personally don't like the Stillen exhaust sound and It is more expensive then the Borla TD...
I wouldn't change my popcharger, a CAI wouldn't go well with the varis air duct I am planning to put on the car.
But yes, the Borla sounds amazing
Love going out at lunch in the downtown core. It's crazy the stares you get. Something about low sounding rumbles just makes the girls oooo and aaaah

I love the sound of it and the Borla duel exhaust working together. I would not trade my POP for anything right now unless a proven miracle intake were developed.
I wonder if you might feel the same way?
Anyway the sound from my Z is going to change after the 1st week of Sept. so I hope it is for the better. Certainly I know the new power will be dramatic.
But it will be very interesting to hear the new upgrades for the first time.

ZlleH, I think TT's is the way to go if you got the dough!
As for the borla I did before and after dyno on the day of install and I thought the torque gains were not all that bad, 6.9 I think. But whatever, to me it isn't all about gains (not to mean gains aren't the most important thing) and the Borla has worked out well for me with those sexy exhaust tips to the sound and to the performance.

I said "maybe a little"
I was driving by a crazy modded Honda Del Sol today, It toally sounded like he dropped a V8 engine in the back. But it was so loud and annoying that I could only take so much of it. And it was funny to hear a mustang sound coming from such a tiny little car.
Anyone know how to produce that V8 engine gas guzzling noise? Does it have to do with better flowing cats and headers?
As for TT or SC, we will see how much fun money there is in 3 years
But with TT, I would have to put even more money in to make sure the motor won't explode.
And about the dyno and torque gain, I never said Borla was at the bottom, remember, Borla has the highest "claimed" HP gains, But I believe they have an average torque gain compared to other exhausts. I guess it comes down to what you want.

2. The Dyno is a terrible way to test an intake unless you have a fan with enough force to re-create true driving conditions. Do your own testing out on a track or some other method in real world driving conditions, then you will know what works and what doesn't work for your car, your mods.
Some of you need to remember that modifications need to work together and you can not simply look at how a certain mod performed on a stock car and think that you will see the same type of results on your vehicle if you already have other mods. If your car is still stock then that is a different story. We have also come to know that our ECUs react differently and the climate, gas quality, altitude and other factors all play a part.
Saying that CAIs do nothing and that no one should get one is not an appropriate statement. I would never go back to the stock air box setup on my car because I lost nearly 0.7 seconds (compared to the Injen CAI) in the 1/4 mile the last time I switched it in and out (with a K&N filter, not stock) on the same day on the same track with an automatic that is terribly consistent. I even tried the ECU resetting procedures thinking something was messed up, but as soon as I put the Injen CAI back in, my times went right back down.
1. I never said the article was current, I pointed out what article that made me to finally order the popcharger instead of just reading forums.
2. I already talked about what I think of dynos
I never dissed the CAI nor told anyone not to get a CAI. I said that I got the popcharger because I was going to put the varis air duct mod so a CAI setup would do me no good.

The varis air duct is the carbon fiber trim on that hole at the front of the car besides the driver's side headlights. It lets direct cold air from the outside to be pushed right towards the popcharger.
A CAI ususally has the filter near the radiator.

Some people hate it, some people love it. It's one of those exterior/performance mods that people either hate or love.
I personally think looks-wise, it makes the car aggrissive looking.
Performance-wise, the theory makes sense. The more outside cooler air being forced right to the popcharger should make the car perform a bit better.
In my case, any more cold air getting into the engine bay is good for me since I have my liscence plate in my grill so it acts like an air dam. The varis air duct will be a welcomed hole in my car.
As for making a difference. You can't really dyno this mod, but a lot of old mustang remove their headlights on the tracks as a little trick to bring in air into their engine bay.
