Default check engine light?

Im planning on starting my modds for the Z. I was planning on ordering a popcharger and testpipes in about a week or two. My brother brought up a point about the check engine light because the test pipes will remove the cats on the car. Are there any test pipes that will avoid setting of the check engine light. I was going to order the helix test pipes and was curious if u need to buy anything to change the o2 sensors on the car to avoid the check engine light from goin on.

You can either buy an electronic O2 simulator which will require cutting and splicing into the sensor harness, or get a getto sim, which is a pair of stacked spark plug anti-foulers (cheapest and simplest, and has worked for me). If you search a little here you can get sources and instructions for both of these options. Good luck!

I have an 03 performance model which i picked up for 22 grand used about 3 weeks ago. I love the car but i need to get some power adders it needs it in my opinion cause i have to deal with having a brother who has a supra making close to 500 whp, which will be changing to 800 whp when he gets the car back. I just felt like starting off small and these are good cheap power adders. So im guessing that there are no test pipes that will avoid settin off the check engine light.

03's usually work well with Test pipes without a CEL

If you remove your cats and do not throw a CEL, consider yourself blessed and in the minority. Even some hi flow cats will throw a CEL.

800hp Supra.... yeah, sounds familiar. We have 5 of them that we built, sitting in our bay right now. Lol. Anyways, I have an '03 Track w/ test pipes and it does not throw a check engine light. Actually, we've installed all kinds of test pipes and high flow cats in '03 350Z's (for off road purposes of course ) and have yet to see one throw a check engine code because of it.

you shouldn't get a SES with an '03.
I have a set of res. test pipes on my z without any problems. although when i recently added the popcharger, I got a SES. I just reset the ecu and the SES is now gone.

btw, get your parts from Darren @ Intense (who posted above)... great price and service.

Alex,

Yes, from 2004.5 to present, they throw CEL from what we've seen. Unfortunately we have no current knowledge of a fix for it either. Sorryz.

Hello,

That will be a great combination. Warning: Helix Cat-Delete pipes are on national back order right now, and will not be available for around 3 weeks or so. We do have a few of our resonated cat delete pipes available right now. Any resonated cat delete pipe will dampen the "raspy" sound that is produced with cat delete pipes are used. Thanks again!

Hello,

I would suggest the resonated ones. We haven't done independent dyno testing of the Helix. Ours made almost 14whp though. Hope this helps!
