Default Installed my INJEN!! Pics included!

So I finally went and got all my crap done today... TE37's, Injen, and sidemarker lights.
First off, the Injen was bought from street sports, Jeremy was a great guy and got it to me quickly and at a great price. The install was fairly painless except I had a custom grille made to protect it from rocks using a 4-5mm thick aluminum grille that we custom cut and then drilled into the aluminum bumper reinforcement behind the front bumper. Hopefully it will atomize any huge water splashes, but more importantly it will help keep rocks from hitting the filter which is unprotected.

BTW, the filter is going to be hard to clean... The only way to get to it, is NOT from above, but only if you drop the bottom cover and then get to it from there...

The change in power is VERY noticeable, it feels SIGNIFICANTLY faster, much more than I thought it would. I would definately recommend it. I can't hear it much though, I guess it's because I did the pre-silencer removal as well..

This is the custom grille:

And you can see the grille near the bottom, this pic is taken from the top down so you can see the filter.

The bottom panel that you remove to change the oil filter is what you need to remove to change out the air filter w/ the injen intake.

Oh, and the installer found a new use for the stock intake!

PS: The bumper is a PAIN IN THE *** to drop.

Umm.. Traffic Jamz in Encino, they also have a shop in La Canada. It's a stereo shop, but the Encino one is good at lots of stuff. They have stereo techs that are really knowledgable in TONS of other car stuff. Plus their stereo work is amazing, they do the CES cars for Nakamichi, Alpine, Diamond Audio, XTANT, and some other huge name brands.

Default Excellent Post!

Hey Z461,

Excellent post! The install looks great. Enjoy! I can hardly wait to get mine in.

If you wouldn’t mind, could you tell us more about the screen you put in? Where did you get it? What material is it?

It looks like by installing that aluminum grill, you descrease your air flow by 2/3. Noticed any difference in engine temperature?

I like the grill. Where I live, in the summertime there are so many bugs out an exposed air filter would be blocked with bugs in a matter of weeks.

can you comment on how difficult it is to switch to short ram mode? if you dropped the bottom, could you pull it out through the bottom? or does the bumper HAVE to come off to do it?

Im assuming the bottom is just held on by a few screws, not nearly as difficult to remove as the bumper.

and it looks sweet BTW. time to commit, I want one.

Umm.. pulling it through the bottom is almost impossible. To switch it to short ram you'd have to pull off the entire bumper.. The only wato to do it would be to somehow twist the rubber tube from out of that stock intake inlet hole from below the car but I wouldn' risk it.. you might hurt the intake.

Umm.. no, it's not bad at all. The engine temp is normal, and there's still a lot of airflow as I can definately feel an increase in power. We put a fan in front of the car and I put my hand behind the grille. The grille isn't as restrictive as it looks, it's just the flash on the camera making it look more like a wall of aluminum than a mesh grille..hehe

That air intake is now very low to the ground. Be Very Careful of puddles. Take it from someone who ruined his 300ZX-TT engine.

Excellent, mines should arrive something next week if the holidays don't slow it down. I will be using the Stillen Grill to protect the filter from any damage.
Once again very nice install.

Is it possible to fit the filter above the bumper so it doesn't get exposed in the front grill? This will keep more bugs from splatter on the filter...

well you can install it as a short ram intake. but then its in the engine bay. I understand what your asking tho, not possible unless you were to cut the pipe short. even so, the filter might not fit since it is larger than the pipe.
