Pretty quiet around here as far as plenums are concerned; has it all been done and said and this is a proven good mod, or are people not buying them anymore?

Considering picking up a v4 Kinetix from another member here and wanting input.

I used to have the Crawford on my G35c and FX35 and liked it, but want to keep the stock strut bar on my Z, so figuring Kinetix is my best bet. Any noticable diffrerences between the two or anything else I should take into consideration?

 

Go with APs or Crawford over Kinetix

 

I myself would steer away from the Kinetix plastic stuff, but IMO most of there stuff is garbage.

If you didn't want to spend a lot of dough the AAM spacer worked very well for me.

 

I'm waiting on the 350evo plenum to come out...

 

Ive had the V4 since it came out, works like a champ, most people that dog kinetix are people who spent money on an inferior product and must justify their purchase, i wouldnt listen to them.

 

ive got kinetix resonated test pipes so ive got nothing against the company, but i'd also rather get a crawford cast or aps plenum. even though kinetix seems to have solved all the problems with the plenum, all the problems that people had before would worry me. that's not to say that it doesn't work very well though. plenum spacers with the thermal gaskets also seem like the way to go now.

 

Well, as a former Crawford owner, I, too, would go that route as my first choice, all else being equal, but I want to keep the stock STB and the Kinetix appears to be the only option. Also, due to it's composition, shouldn't the Kinetix inherently stay cooler than the rest? Are it's performance gains pretty much equal to the Crawford?

 

inferior product? lets see, I tried the kinetix plenum V4 (melted). I also tried the front A arms, but after trying to dial in the camber realized that they are the inferior product.

By using their products I did learn one thing, if you are going to buy something by the best (crawford, APS, AAM and the soon to come 350evo).

 

I'm going to get the Kinetix V4 Plenium. My friend had the plenium and high flow cats installed so it was good to see it first hand. He drove the Z for about half an hour on the highway and then open up the hood so I can put my hand on the plenium, the kinetix plenium was luke warm. I would never be able to do that with any other metal plenium.

Also, it is a lot less in weight then the stock or other metal plenium so if you are into weight reduction that is a bonus.

I believe the melting are isolated cases, one case being that the guy put his car in idle for 2 hours while washing his car so he can listen to the radio. He contaced Kinetix and they sent him a new one right away. They mentioned that the plenium must have not cured properly or been left out of the curing process by accident. If these weren't isolated cases, Every kenetix customer would complain and want their money back. As if every company has 100% perfect product. I've seen people complain about the crawfords on this board as well. Kinetix also has a life time gurantee. And will even transfer that to a 2nd buyer.

 

I have had the Kinetix V4 ever since it came out and have no desires for anything else. Other than my Nismo cams, this plenum is my favorite mod. It doesn't get hot and the sound is awesome in my opinion. I have never had any trouble with it or their products. I also have their h/f cats and love them as well. I just had my car inspected and had no emissions issues. Overall, I am very happy with their work.

 

Love my Crawford plenum. I think it's been quiet b/c it's become one of those mods that's just a "given."

 

Like everyone else, go with APS tallboy or the Crawford. Heard Kinetix have alot of problems, probably why that guy is selling it.

 

No, he's selling it b/c he just got a Stillen S/C installed. He's olny had it for a couple of months.

I've had a negative experience with Kinetix. They say that the V4 is supposed to fit with the stock strut bar but it doesn't. I had to put washers under the strut bar to keep it from resting on top of the Plenum. Even with the washers the strut bar was still rubbing against the plenum. Under hard acceleration I would hear this squeaking sound from the plenum and strut bar rubbing. I couldnt stand it, so I sold it and got the Crawford. No worries what so ever.

It seemed like everytime I handled the Kinetix plenum, I had to be super carefull with it. I was to scared to even torque it down with a torque wrench. It was to sensitive. When I took it off, I also noticed that the blow by (oil) that goes into the plenum gets absorbed by the cork gasket, turning it into almost mush.........I have nothing but bad things to say about the Kinetix plenum. Go Crawford or those other brands......No worries.

P.S. I also had the V3 which cracked on me.

 

What did Kinetix say about ur melting plenum??? Money back???

 

I didn't even call them. I was so disgusted with their products (A arms / Plenum) by that point.

 

I've heard the motordyne spacer is pretty good. Try doing a search on it

 

What exactly was going on when your plenum melted? was the car idling, track day? long drive? hot day?

And why wouldnt you call them?????
