Exclamation Aam Spacer Problem? Opinions!!!!!

Installed my plenum spacer last nite. Ran into a couple of problems tho. Followed all directions to the T. When I was done I started my car and heard a whistling noise when I was shuttin my car off. It was comin from the plenum. Sounded like a vacumm leak. I would find one, then I would hear another. Sounded like my car wanted to shut off. Ended up doin it all over again. But used Sealer for the center screws. It helped, but now I hear a slight little one coming from the side where there is that stud that you can't put a screw in it. Very light tho. Am I losing power? Will that hurt my car? What can I do? Don't want to keep takin it off and on cause I don't want to strip the treads in the lower plenum. Kinda did on one, taking it off and tightenin again. Put in a long screw that I had extra that came with the spacer, and it worked fine. Thoughts? A lil worried.........

Don't let it continue to leak, small leaks will cause the car to heat up from running lean at idle and throw off the computer.

Exclamation Newark....

Mike I live in newark. I think I met you before driving on 896. We pulled in BK and talked wit my friend which has the black 350z. I have the white one. Having problems with the spacer. Tried tightening tighter. But I don't want to strip the lower plenum. Probably need sumone who knows a lil more then me on this to help. My friend and I couldn't figure it out. We think it's coming from the side that has that stud........

I had the same thing happen. I replaced the stock bolds with some 1/2 longer and they tightened up perfectly. no leaks.

Huh, I don't know what to tell you. When I put on my Motordyne spacer it synced up perfectly. I wish I knew how to help you bro, but good luck!

I would go with motordyne, I think the lack of center supports weakened my plenum, and caused it to crack during a later install.

Couple of things to check.

1-Make sure the O-ring bonded to Aluminum washer is below the standard washer in the rear center

2-Check the rubber around the oil cap. It may have gotten stuck in-between the upper and lower sections

3-ou can also try to spray carb cleaner or starter fluid around the plenum while the car is running. Listen for changes in idle as you spray differnet areas. This will help you localize the issue.

It did not. I'm a big guy and I can jump up and down on top of the plenum with or without the spacer. Most likely your plenum was already a weak casting. Also, there is no way to tighten the bolts down to a point that they could crack or break a 1/4" thick casting of aluminum without the threads tearing out of the lower plenum. The fact of the matter is its more dangerous for loose and potentially unsecure components (spacers) to be placed inside the plenum. They could potentially fall into the motor.
