Default Fujitsubo Legalis R installed! Pics and review.

UPS delivered the Legalis R last night along with some power tools I ordered earlier. I was so excited and have the exhaust installed right away. Took my and my gf about 3 hours to install due to taking off the old exhaust from those rubber hanging bushing.

First Impression:

The packaging is extremely great and exhaust's material and welds are the best I have ever seen. Very smooth welds and shiny polish SS.

Install:

Install was actually easy, just took us some time to take off the stock exhaust. After the stock exhaust is off, everything sped up. Fitment was perfect as I expected from this high quality Japanese exhaust manufacturing leader.

Start up and driving impression:
With the exhaust, the car starts with a low deep rumble and is quieter than stock. Sound is very different from what I expected. The deep mellow tone exhaust is very unique, in a good way. A very low key exhaust system.

Butt dyno shows no gain.

Overall, I am satisfy with it, though it's quieter than stock IMO, but has a very very unique tone.

Pics.

Thanks my buddy Mike Comroe (Amdek) for taking these sweet pics.

Thanks. I think at WOT it's as loud as my stock exhaust, but with a deeper tone, but the weird thing is my stock exhaust is much louder than any other Z with stock exhaust

No noticible feel in hp gain, which means the gain has yet to be proven on a dyno. I did "feel" the car has a little more torque down low though.

The cats will preserve the tone but give you a little more grunt. I had the same observations with mine until I put the Helix cats on. It will sound even better!

thanks for the quick reply... btw i noticed you didn't site if you had the complete piping from the Y-pipe all the way to the actual axle back or just the exhaust piping and axle. im hoping you have everything except the Y-pipe and that could be the cause of the dyno showing no gains. but still i would be pretty mad that for a $1000 exhaust, i gained no hp!!!

He said he didnt feel any gains on the butt dyno just to clarify. Even a y pipe back exhaust will yeild some power even if its not felt.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.

For my exhaust setup, I am still running stock headers, stock cats and stock Y-pipe, plus the Legalis R y-pipe back exhaust. I am going to put on my crawford cats on this following weekend.

"butt" dyno refers to the "feel" of the increasing power from the mods you just installed. Everything is base of a feeling, not any thing scientific like a reading from a dynometer.

Why Nissan didn't design their exhaust to gain max power?

The 350Z exhaust system, like every OEM exhaust is a compromise of

performance
reliability
emissions
cost
and noise.

How about name a non-limited production car that come with an exhaust system to gain max power from the factory? I honestly can't think of any. Like davidv said, there are a few reasons for a car manufacturer to decided what to put into a stock car.
Also, not everyone put an exhaust just for power gain, people buy aftermarket stuffs to be different among others, as a partcial reason.

Don't worry. Throw a good y-pipe on there and you will notice some gains. Put a pair of good hi-flo cats like Crawford or Helix, etc and you'll see some more. I personally can't vouch for headers on this car because although I have a pair sitting around I haven't decided if the gains at this point are worth the $400 plus to get them installed.

^ yep

no gain with just the muffler, its the y-pipe that gives the power

if u want some more volume, grab the crawford cats...... and then tell me what it sounds like

nah seriously, youve no doubt noticed that fuji rasp, the highflow cats will amplify that

I didn't get a rasp out of the fuji until I added the Helix cats which supposedly don't rasp but mine do. The fuji & y-pipe were 100% rasp free.
