Default custom exhaust, universal mufflers?

which universal mufflers do you think i should use for my custom exhaust project

HKS Hi Power Ti Carbon Fiber wrapped, 120mm tip 170mm shell - $585 for two
HKS Hi Power Ti 96mm tip 130mm shell - $525 for two
Apexi N1 - $378 for two
Magnaflow 14568 muffler, 2 in 2 out w/ built in x-pipe - $117.77 + tips = $192.47
others - ?

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions

Take it from someone who has been there....dont waste your time or money, just get a total aftermarket system and be done with it.

It all depends on.

1. what type of sound you are looking for

2. are you going to stay NA or go FI

3. how much you want to spend. (with the mufflers, piping, labor it might cost more than and standard aftermarket cat back)

+1.Custom exhaust sounds like a cool idea, but you have to make a guess about performance. Why not just go with a proven cat-back.

I couldnt agree more, and unless you can find a shop that will mandrel bend your piping instead of press-bending it, you are already fighting a loosing battle.

And even if you CAN find a shop that will mandrel bend your pipe, after you add up labor, stainless-mandrell bent piping, Mufflers, resonators and time out of your schedule to supervise the whole thing. (dont just hand your car over, if you know whats good for you.) buying a tried and true aftermarket will seem a whole lot more sensible. As well as the fact, that you have NO clue what your car will sound like, you will wind up...as I did...swapping muffler after muffler, with resonator after restonator and changing configurations umpteen million times....the list goes on. Trust me my friend, custom exhuast projects are...........exhuasting.

If I were to make a custome exhaust with 2 HKS Ti mufflers, should I go mild steel or stainless ?

It will be for a TT set up.

Is stainless really worth the extra cash ?

Thanks !

I had a custom 2.5" y-pipe made, with a 2.5" - 3" output to my single hks carbon ti universal. One resonator. W/out FI, I gained about 5hp and it sounded awesome. Now that I have turbos, it's even more beneficial and sounds even better!

Total cost w/ muffler was about $650. That is w/ mandrel bent tubing. To each their own I guess.

Mild steel painted w/ a high temp silver paint. SS is just for looks, I've thought of upgrading but hell it's under the car and the car is 3" off of the ground.

I built my Custom System based on an "X" type MagnaFlow muffler. After a little more than a year I couldn't stand the drone anymore. I tossed it and put in an Invidia G200 with an "H" Pipe. No more drone, more power, and it sounds great.

As was said above, I've been there, and it's not worth it. Buy a good after market system. There is a lot of them out there now.
