Default Just got the K and N typhoon on my car!

I got a K and N typhoon from Mike @ optionimports.com. he's a good guy to deal with and would do more future transactions with him in the future. the intake definately looks good under the hood (polished color type). i'd post pics but there are a million pics of these on the site anyway. i was expecting to lose some low end power as people who have the typhoon have experienced...but so far i don't think i lost any low end grunt. the intake does sound deeper but not as 'mean' as everyone says it is. on the freeway it pulls nicely and felt the accelerator to be a little bit more responsive. all in all i'm quite happy with it though i don't know if i would have bought it new (reg. price @ $260+). i reccomend if you wanted this intake to get it used. k and n's dyno of this intake showed a peak 10.1whp but it seems that gain shows up at only above 6K+. just wanted to post something different...it just seems 95% of the intake reviews are of the popcharger.

Looks like a nice design. A good alternative of the pop charger and the INjen

Congrats man! I've heard good things about K&N as well. One tip: There can never be enough pics of various installs Post one or two if you don't mind.

i'll post pics when i get the chance...all i have access to now is a camera phone (it's not even mine it's my co-worker's two cubicles over...lol). i notice that on the c/f cover that there seems to be rubbing with the hood. there is a mark about the size of a nickel. after driving it in traffic for 2 hours i DID feel a bit of bog..possibly heat soak since the box gets pretty hot like jason @ performance said. but once you get going it's great. i don't really feel it pull any harder until around 4.5 to 5K and up.

what i did notice was that usually with intakes that i had in the past it would give a pisssshhhhhh sound when i turn off the car. this one doesn't. or when i sit at idle you sould hear a continuous 'pssssshhh' sound. this one doesn't. maybe the box is insulating the sound too much?...hmmm.

but so far so SES lights and the battery was not even disconnected during install. maybe the ecu needs time to re-learn the intake so i could get better gains?...since no one really has an independant dyno of this i am planning to do one in the future. i'll put the stock air box on, then the typhoon.

Excellent choice (but we’re still out numbered by the pop charger).

I'm having the K&N Typhoon installed as I type. I am also having test pipes installed. I will have a before and after dyno to report on this afternoon or in the morning. Hope to see some cool results. Any guesses as to hp increase. everything else on the car is stock but the exterior. rob

i have to say it's a nice intake design and the c/f lid looks great (apart from the hood rubs and scratches...). i was a bit disappointed with the sound (i guess there was too much hype my expectations were too huge) and the gains are slight...but great buy nonetheless.

i was looking at the snokel design though. the tube that leads to the box goes up 90 degrees. i wonder if enough cool air ever reaches the box. it just seems the bend is too sharp.

I've had my K&N CAI installed for about 14 months ... no problems....a little more high pull and a littel more growl when you stomp on th agas. The only install challange was that sensor wiring harness was tight when mounting sensor into the K&N sensor mounting location. The picture looks like the sensor was not yet mounted. Does anyone know if there is a way to get another inch or two from the sensor wiring harness?

The wiring for the MAF sensor is tight. Very tight. There is a clip near the front of the engine cover. Unclip the wire. That may give you an extra inch. That’s all.

Agreed. The 90-degree bend is a disadvantage. If fact, the OEM intake should be located at the FRONT of the plenum not the rear. But that's something that we all have to work with.

If you wanted to you could work with carbon fiber the same way the you would enamel paint: rubbing compound. Its sounds like a lot of trouble to me.

well i found what the rattle was. it was just a loose bolt attaching to the air box. after 5 days of driving i have to say that the tone of the car is noticeably different and the car seems to pull harder now. i guess the ecu did it's thing? anyway i was lukewarm/okay about thei ntake but now i am really liking it!! i can't wait to get an exhaust, plenum spacer and pullies....
