Default Installing 05 lower plenum on 04???

I was wondering will installing a 05 lower plenum on a 04 give hp gains or will it actually lose hp gains? and if it does give hp gains, how much hp gains can actually be expected?? My guess is i think it'll lose hp gains, because the variable timing and ecu is different.

so basically you lose HP and TQ until 6300 then you gain 5 hp and 8tq? that doesnt rfeally seem very good mod for the $....

Wow not a good mod at all. If i had a 05 model i would consider swappin a 04 lower plenum on it. I wonder how that would turn out, should be interesting to see the results.

You mean the 05 35th Anniversary Edition with the Rev Up motor...Thats the only 05 with that motor..All the non-35th anniversary 05's have the same motor as previous Z's thus the same lower plenum as 03/04's.

I think the Track Model had it last year as well. All 6MTs this year.

I think the 05 35th Anniversary is only on the Track model...They are one and the same....

+1 Its the area under the peak that matters most. Waste of $$$

You have to reflash ur ECU to get max gains from the lower plenum. As you can see from Jason's dyno... it keeps pulling after redline. It doesn't stop at 6600rpm.

yes...

if you are building a high RPM motor this modification is definatly worth it...

It will build HP beyond the even 7300 RPM that the technosqure reflash does...

Im planning on an 8000 RPM motor...

what if i was to just get a ts reflash, would the lower plenum be a worthwhile mod?? I mean ill be having over 6200 rpm of lossed hp, i know if i was racing and i keep my rpm high, this mod would actually make my car faster, but most people dont spend the majority of their time driving over 6200 rpm. Well tell me what you guys think, is it a worthwhile mod if i get a ts reflash and raise the red line??

Yeah the other one is already dropping off @ 6000rpm.

Planning any crank modifications?

I know Nismo has an awesome crank available but its a bit pricey. The revup motor or 06 motor? has modified crank oil galleries, so it might be worth using one of these cranks or modifying the earlier crank, if you've got one, to have increase oil flow capabilities. Im planning on getting mine chamfered, balanced and strengthened to sustain higher rpm limits.

it will help make use of the more HP at the higher RPM's, but you will also have to drive your car in higher RPM's to make more of the power...

If using as a daily driver, freeway passing for example, you have to down shift more then before...

but the difference really isnt as noticable as it looks like on the dyno..

I still break loose my rear wheels down shifting into 2nd, and still chirp them otherwize....

when I get around to doing the motor, if i deicde to completly re-build the motor I have now with over 60000 miles on it, im either just going to change the connecting rod bolts, If i do rebuild the motor or build a new one ill knife edge / ballance the crank as much as I can, keep stock 03-05 non-revup connecting rods w/ NISMO Rod bolts, and pistons.. JWT S1 cams, PP everything..

rite now, its all wishes... dont even have my car rite now either... :-/ body shop... again... damn drunks.....

Jason,

I have just ordered a 05 lower plenum and am wondering to know... do you reckon that you will get some torque gained after you get the ECU tuned up again with the lower plenum?

I will be running 11.5:1 pistion, Nismo S1 cams, Nismo VTC pulleys, MoTeC ECU... etc. and with proper tuning, do you reckon that this '05 lower plenum will help gaining the lower end torque back?

cheers,

richie

Hi Richie,

It hard to say but I think with proper tuning you should get some of the above losses back. Your Motec system gives your tuner more options to play with.

The noticable gains though should occur from 6000rpm to rev limit (7500rpm+). Based on the above info and info on some other pages, it appears the 03 lower plenum may be restricting anything past 6000rpm. Have a look at your last dyno sheet to see if the power drops off a bit before the rev limit like the 03/04 posted dyno above.

The higher compression pistons should up torque/power all the way across your rpm range with a slight taper at higher rpm as the tuner will have to retard some ignition timing at high rpm to protect the motor.

It will be very interesting to see how you motor responds to the mods you've chosen. It should be awesome.

Thanks Murray!

My dyno peak power is at around 6500rpm, then from there, it starts to drop off.. so I guess the 05 lower plenum should help a bit on that... just hope that with raised compression ratio, I can get the lower end torque back as much as possible... I guess it all depends on the tuning then!

Will keep you posted on that too!

cheers,

richie

If there is any low end loss from the plenum, even after a tune, the gains from the higher compression pistons should easily outweight them, so you would still end up with more power everywhere.

I could have sold you mine off my 05. I have a 03-04 lower collector now on my 05. MAkes a ton more power .
