Thumbs up Well I know stock cats rob serious power!

I know a shop that will do it for me, but it's not reccommended unless you are a die hard like me :-)

New cars don't require a SMOG here for 5 years and most after market Cats are CARB approved anyway. But you are "supposed to wait 50k miles. Baah!

Let me know what you find out please?

Random Tech and Car Sound are my two choices and it's kind of like my FlowmMaster Muffler, it's not a matter of aplicable to my car it's a matter of whether they will fit clearance wise and the inlet outtlet size.

In other words if they make a 2.5 with the right clearance and inlet/outlet it will work, regardless of whether they were designed for our Z or not. Follow me?

I know some fellow LS1 F-Bod die hards that gained .2 tenths by switching from stock to RT Cats!

I would prefer to do it at the same time as the Y-Pipe. FYI Car Sounds outflow RT's at half the price!

2003z... man, that does sound good... just watched the short video link.

What did the Y-pipe/flowmaster 80 combo set you back? Also, this probably is a dumb question, but you left the presilencer off with this set up, correct?

May be making a trip for some exhaust work this weekend! HP gain or not, that just sounds gooooooooooooooooooood!

cost 260 for the muffler and to have resonator removed.
cost 30 to get the resonator put back on (didn't like it off)
cost 120 for the y-pipe,

now the bad news.
lost 4hp and 2.5tq. however up until around 5200 rpm, had a slight increase in both. looks like about a 10hp drop at 6350.

posting new graphs in separate thread.

my wife thinks its the gas I bought at an independent exxon/convenience store. she doesn't trust them and thinks its not really premium. I think I will have a nice starting point for the nismo or other company's chip.

Default Interesting

Haven't checked the new thread yet but was the Dyno all spikey looking like it went into KR?

I had some bad gas do that to me on a Dyno, a bottle of Fuel Injector fluid and two tanks of Union 76 and it went back up to show gains (this was on adding MAC Headers with an ORP on an LS1.)

If changing the Y-Pipe causes 4-10hp loss all the way up to the 6k range I will probably have to pass on that, I was set to do it too!

Have to find your new thread and subscribe to it.

Arrow My Dyno looked like that to once

It was determined to be Knock Retard from Bad Gas. I checked my fuel pump first to rule that out.

It shouldn't be that spikey. It looks like it is either searching for gas or air or fuel when it maxes out at the top of the chart.

It wants to climb higher but goes into KR. That's my observation anyway.

Default That one is spikey too

Not all the way through the whole band though.

Hard to say, too rich, too lean, not enough fuel.

Did you ever do a stock Dyno before the CAI?

Just curious what it would have looked like.

Think I will do one now on mine before I go any farther. I will upload it next week. See what it looks like PRE CAI.
Could be messing with the MAF?

I'll catch up on this later today after some sleep.

Hmm... so Y-Pipe and muffler (without losing resonator) should run around $350... not too bad.

A little worried about the dynos though... are you going to go back after you cycle through some good gas?

Also, do you think the design of the Y-Pipe (the two 90 degree turns) could be hampering HP? I know you are using 2 1/2" pipe, but the exhaust gases would still flow more efficiently in a straight line. (Damn... who knew my Fluid Dynamics class from college would ever come in handy again!)

It would seem with the two bends, you are creating two areas of back pressure in the pipe... probably doesn't change things much, but I think a loss of a few HP would not be out of the question.

Anyone with some thoughts on this???
