Default dyno results

Did it with just the K&N drop in after all. 5th gear, corrected to standard day. Tech said it looked like the ECU was cutting back the timing at 2500 rpm, and the fluctuations were similar to indications of pinging. The other 350Z they did, did not vary as much as mine. Topped out at 241.7hp and 240.2 tq. The other one they did in the past had 244hp.

How much did the dyno pull cost you? I might stop by that same shop just for comparison's sake.

I assume you're running 93 octane? Do you know what brand of fuel you filled up with last?

Thanks,
Jeff

Did you reset your ECU when you put in the K&N? if not, that could be the reason for the pings

So are you saying there was a lost using the K&N filter, based off previous test?

To reset ECU, remove battery's negative terminal for 30sec to 10min, every car is different (simple way-step on brake til light no longer shines) then reconnect, fire it up and drive around

I put the K&N in the day I got the car, and had the battery disconnected for a few days when I installed the stereo, so I would assume it was reset, especially since its been in for 3700 miles now.

As for gas, I use QuikTrip 93 octane exclusively.

3 runs for $59.99, Z club of Ga. price, or coupon from their website.

[So are you saying there was a lost using the K&N filter, based off previous test?]
No, previous test was on a different 350Z, don't know what he had, but will assume stock.

i wasnt all that disappointed, i plan to do quite a few mods so i wanted a baseline. it seems that, depending on the car, it is a ways away from the "7 hp" difference b/w coupe and Z. now if someone would finally come out with some F/I..........

Dr. Rick, only 600 miles and you redlined your car? Not worried about possible damage?

nope. thats what warranties are for . seriously though, there was so much conflicting info as far as break-in, i wasnt too worried. i did wait until after 1200 miles to really start enjoying it. couple of charges (3) shouldnt do too much damage. im more worried about that 6th to 2nd shift on the highway at 65 that i managed to pull off

Default Scared the $--t out of me Too

DrRick,

I did the same while entering the freeway. I meant to downshift from 5th to 4th. Missed 4th and hit 2nd instead. Not a good feeling. I've been practising my shifting at lower speeds. This is my first 6 speed and most 350Z owners may be aware, but I have since realized that the stick is spring loaded to the neutral position between 3rd and 4th. I now let the shifter's spring do all the side movement and I will guide it the rest of the way to 3rd or 4th when downshifting.

definitely not something that i like to admit. it was weird because i let my brother drive it to work a few weeks ago and he told me that he did it. i thought that he was kidding, so i dint believe him. after i did it, i now know the truth. as i get more use to the car, im sure that the likelihood of it happening will lessen. hopefully..........
