Default Pics of Y-Pipe upgrades?

Have read several places that this is typically good for the VQ motors. Anybody got some good pics of a Y-Pipe upgrade they have done on the Z?

I'm considering doing this, but want a visual reference before taking my car to the local exhaust shop...

I have pics that a Dan Stam posted on ZCAR.com recently. He had a custom y-pipe made. Here's the thread:

http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=5&i=77447&t=77447

Unfortunately, there is a low daily quota on bandwidth for where the pictures are hosted so I will also embed the pics, here's the source:

pics coming in following posts...

Sorry. I forgot about the resolution limit and I recently reinstalled my OS on my computer and lost Photoshop. Here's one poorly scaled img. Can someone else follow that link in the post and rescale those imgs before the daily bandwidth limit kicks in?

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks, Jeff!

I had hoped for a pic from underneath, but those show the set up pretty well. Hopefully, I can show those to the guys at the local shop and get an estimate for the work. How much did you pay to have yours done? Or did you do it yourself?

Andy,

Goto www.350zmotoring.com . There's a more complete discussion there regarding this y-pipe. I believe the guy who did it, had a shop do it for ~ $300?

Nice! You couldn't replicate the Top Secret Y-Pipe design? It appears there are quite a few bends that may hamper flow?

they are 2.5" pipes and the factory single is about 2.5" so I don't think it hampers that much! Stock looked less than 2" and wasn't mandrel bent either under the heat shield.

Default Gains?

Anyone have any gain numbers or estimates for doing a custom Y-Pipe like this?

I would spend 250.00 for 7HP bout now, probably talk someone into throwing in some Random Tech Cats too while we were there!

looks great! but there are (2) 90degree bends, will it reduce velocity flow?

was it not possible to do straight Y-PIPE? Just wondering.. Thanks..

Sure, it would be possible to have them angled instead of having 2 bends I guess. They would have had to bend the prefabricated y-pipe though, and not sure if it would have fit in their bender. If you could find one that was a true Y instead of a U it could easily be more straight.

Patience on the dyno!

Thanks for the extra pics. Still haven't jumped on this... like others, I may wait to see some dyno results.

I did find this nice pic of the Top Secret Y-Pipe that shows the difference between it and 2003z's pipe with the two bends...

hey.. 2003z... I hope you'll post some dyno figures for us here after you go.

That will be the big deciding factor in whether I do the Y-pipe now or not...

Thanks!

Default Gonna do it

I am gonna have my Muffler Tech fabricate me a Y-Pipe with a similar shape as the "Top Secret" one. Gonna try and replace my cats with RT's too, I think they are defective

About 3 weeks from now, you know pics will follow then when I am finished. This should complete my exhaust, then I will need a CAI. Baby steps baby steps

I'm curious about new cats too. I ought to call RT, since they are just around the corner from me.
