grab the k an n filter cleaning kit (pep boys or any automotive store)
take the filter off car
brush off fliter of any dirt
spray the filter with the cleaner and let it sit for 10-15min.
rinse off the filter from the inside out so that the dirt doesn't get imbedded further in the filter.
tap the filter a couple of times
let it air dry (do not use pressurised air, put it in the oven, etc...lol)
spray the oil (not too much, one coat will do) and let it sit for 20min
install fliter back on the car

I thought the nismo was a CAI, do you have pictures of your short ram installed? Does it sound any different?

I clean the filter with each oil change.

1. Toss in bucket of soapy water
2. Agitate
3. Rinse with clear water
4. Dry inside and out with leaf blower
5. Light coat of WD-40
6. Install

I have a filter that is “inside” the engine bay so it is convenient to remove-clean-install.

I've got over 30,000 miles on my filter. Haven't cleaned it yet but have had an itch to do it. I remember reading from K&N a long time ago that the filter starts working well when it actually get's dirty, which won't take too long. I guess they designed it that way since they know it's going to get dirty, haha.
