I am planning on installing test pipes on my 350Z. Since this part deletes one of the cats will the "Check Engine" light turns on. Is there a way to turn the light off? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

 

yes test pipes delete the cats, hence they are AKA cat-delete pipes. If you have a 2003 you are safe with the CEL coming on. If you have a 2004 you have a chance of it coming on. If you have a 2005 you are almost guaranteed its going to come on. If the light comes on, you need to get either O2 simulators of non-foulers to plug in into fooling the ECU to get a false signal.

 

Mine is 2005. Is there any ill effects on the engine by using them? I have seen the test pipes ranging in price from $90 to $298. From the pictures they look the same but I don't want to get ripped off.

 

I have an '05 and have been running test pipes for over 3 months with no CEL or any issues. I used the spark plug defouler trick and it works like a charm. I bought a set of used helix test pipes for 100 bux. Best 100 mod I ever bought.

 

no ill effect, can only help. But you dont wanna be caught by law enforcement with test pipes. By paying more, you are paying for quality, and sound. The cheaper ones are usually non-resonated test pipes, which may add a bit of rasp to your exhaust.

 

Since test pipes are just an empty pipe, the difference in dollars is primarily materials and workmanship. Consider stainless steel for longevity. Also look for pipes with a heat shield. That area gets very hot.

 

how long have you had the defoulers on? did you install them yourself?

 

But most test pipes doesn't come with heat shield. Will the stock ones fit over it?

 

Excuse me for asking what are the defoulers? And where can I get the how to do that trick?

 

hate to chime in but i have an 03 and test pipes and i thru a SES light...could be many factors as to why it came on tho...but strangely enough its off now...weird

 

you wont need a heat sheild with test pipes...it doesnt operate like a converter and get super hot to burn off the unspent fuel.
