Default Exhaust Question?

I'm ordering the Borla TD within the next week or so. I was also thinking about getting resinated test pipes or the plenium spacer 5/16. I really don't want to get the check engine light with the test pipes. I have a 2005. Is there a way to fix that. I want a somewhat load exhaust with some gains. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And money is an issue and I already have a pop charger.

scrap the test pipe. Its not worth the hassle. You can't pass inspection and they hardly ever fit right. You don't see alot of gains from it either. Keep it legal by using a high flow cat (I honestly wouldn't even do that). The plenum spacer would be a better buy. I've built and tuned plenty of imports and if you want to go fast on a limited budget....save your money, buy a good clutch (ACT's extreme pressure plate with street disc is my fav), install the plenum, and throw on a NX wet kit. Their "shots" are true rwhp. Unlike NOS and others who base their shots on flywheel HP. You keep your reliability and gas mileage and you only go fast when you need it. Follow the rules of using nitrous and your car will run forever.

just my 2 cents

I have both on my 05'. I have the motordyne 5/16 iso thermal something and xerd test pipes. I am very happy with both mods. I used some non foulers on the testpipes and I have not had a check engine light come on yet.

Read “New 350Z owners, read this before doing any modifications to your Z.” and write a long range plan for mods. Follow the plan. The plan should include scrapping the entire OEM exhaust system.

How do you insure that you do NOT get a CEL with resonated test pipes? The subject has been address 50 times. Please search.

Anytime that you increase the volume of air into or out of the engine, the exhaust noise level will increase. The objective of a plenum spacer is to increase plenum volume, and make more air available to the engine.

The gain will depending on what exhaust system you go with. We have tested the Helix exhaust and found at least 10whp gain consistently. The test was done on a brand new 05 within the same day.

Thanks,
Tom
