Question Has anybody heard the APS 3" LIVE?

I'm not talking about sound clips. Has anybody actually heard the 3.5" test-pipes and the 3" dual APS system on a turboed 350Z? I know these are new, but didn't anybody in the U.S. get them for shows, promotions, beta-testing, etc? I ordered a set and am worried they'll be too loud on the roadster

Anybody? I know the big SFR exhaust that MRC put on one of their cars was described as too loud for an everyday driver......

Thanks,

Bruce

No, but I went ahead and ordered both last week. I have a feeling its going to be one loud ****. I know its overkill but I'll never NEED to upgrade my exhaust ever again.

LOL I'm glad somebody else took the plunge as well. I can't wait to read your impressions of it. I should get mine this week too but I won't be installing it until next month along with my kit.

Default I'm partway there.....

I just tracked my shipment. The test-pipes have arrived and the duals are supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Depending on Robs' schedule, I could be all back together as early as Wednesday! I better go check the freeway-cams and see if I'll be able to make it back on I-5.....

PM me before you come out so we can meet up, and hopefully its not this weekend. I'll be out of town again. I think the last time you came down I was gone as well.

I hope all goes smoothly, since my G is still in stasis till you're done.
If the 3.5 is too loud I showed Rob this link. Don't know how well they work , but they are inexpensive and could be inserted in the pipe just before the rear cans since there's a flange there.

Jason-
Why are you waiting on ME? Get that badass G put together! I didn't wait on anybody! (Oh, hold on, maybe that's why I've gotten to jump through so many hoops?)

if it's anything like the STi APS 3.5" turboback, it's LOUD.. like BASS hitting sound loud.. and the STi is just a 2.5 Litre motor.. with a 3.5 Litre, yea, it's going to be loud.. especially when you are running track pipes.

Jason-
Did Rob tell you I shipped TWO sets of Forge actuators to him? (Just looking out for you). Being the guinea pig is okay in this case, because I'm expecting you and Bruce to take it to the next level. My mods will probably pale in comparison to what you two end up doing. This IS my everyday driver. Now, I just have to decide how much "mark-up" to add to those actuators(just kidding).
Rob received the big down-pipes this afternoon and is welding in a wideband bung for me. I can't wait!

the 2.5 isn't too loud... this one might be louder and deep thumping loud. After what I heard at MRC toda( SFR borla ), i dont think it can get that loud lol.

My G was/will be my mostly everyday driver, so ~550rwhp with street rubber is way more than adequate. After you fry your current rears (won't take long) you should consider upgradeing to 315x18 BFG DRs. I currently run 295x18 PS2s and don't expect them to hold up for long once my rig hits the street again. I think Bruce has stroker plans, I think 3.5L will be fine for me.

Bruce i heard your exhaust. Its not bad. Its loud but not too loud well maybe.
Its hard to describe. It sounds good, but it lost a lil Z sound to it. Its deep, I would say its like a mustang or other V8 with an exhaust done. You know those ones that always run up next to you and rev. Like that loud but better sounding. The exhaust looks sweet except I don't like the dual exhaust look, i prefer the nismo look cuz it looks stock.

So are the Z tips on the delivered exhaust bent straight back or canted?

Hey, mine's an everyday driver, too! Unfortunately, it's ROBS' everyday driver, not mine!) I'm planning on heading down sometime between tomorrow and Saturday. I understand there's a car show going on and a bar-b-que out Milpitas way. You still leaving town, Bruce? You going to be around Jason?

Bruce, since you've heard it, did Rob mention welding a crossover into it? Any thoughts?

Let me know what your ETA into SJ is , I would like to hook up.
I doubt a cross-over will by you much from a dB reduction, may help the sound quality a bit , but not reduce loudness.

G3po, good question. I think its an illusion. The exhaust comes out the rear like the injen. The muffler is canted but the tip is straight out. It is huge tho. Bigger than any exhaust ive seen minus that big azz STI muffler they have. The APS still looks clean. I made a drawing in this post but it was all jacked up.

Redleader,

I was going but now that I think about it, I don't think I can make it to Fresno by the time the fight is so I don't know if im gonna go out of town. Rob mentioned the Xover and I think it would make for a better sound.
