Default test pipes with stock exhaust?

Just like the title says, has anyone put test pipes on a stock exhaust, or maybe just a y-pipe? How does it sound and smell, that sounded funny . Anyways, what kind of power increases should I expect not to mention the weight reduction of the cats.

I'm going to try to get vids soon, I couldn't get vids this weekend like I wanted because of the rain but I'll try to get them sometime this week. Hopefully my camera does a good job at picking up the sound. I like the way it sounds, sort of what I expected but a little better. Sounds great outside of the car, inside its raspy which I didn't mind because its really only when you're on it. Normal driving it sounds stock.

The gains are noticeable up top. My 1st gear goes by quicker
The cats and the brace are HEAVY. I put them in the box the test pipes came in and they almost ripped it apart from carrying it.

it will sound raspy. not much can be done about that.the smell is gonna be gross from all the unburnt fuel, but who cares about the smell.

That was one of my first mods. Definitely sounded much sweeter with the stock exhaust.

I'm not a big fan of rice, too many carsbs j/k. I'm sure it wont be too bad, and who makes the resonated test pipes? I know some companies like megan produce cheap welds but there is another company which makes a very expensive one. Any experience with this?

what i suggest is getting some high quality parts. pay more in the beginning than dealing with cracks and exhaust leaks in the future.

i ran labree resonated test pipes/jic ypipe/ and the oem midpipe & muffler for awhile. it sounds good to me, barely any rasp and it never gets mistaken for a civic. my current setup is labree resonated test pipes/jic ypipe/nismo mid & muffler, this set-up is a lot louder (but the shiny nismo stuff is too pretty to even consider taking off )

umm...
i got pro1 test pipes..
from 350zforums.org(iffffy vendor?)
108 dollars shipped
non-resonated... but resonated will cost like 2x as much...
i mean they are just straight pipes... spending 100 or 200 or even 300 for the same kind of product?
the pro-1s works fine... if it breaks i'll buy another set and proly be even with someone who paid 200+ in advance lol
but chances of some straight pipes breaking... not much~

non-resonated rasp though, I hate all that m3 rasp. I need something that has that awesome stock exhaust sound but a bit louder. Also, how much power did you gain with your test pipes?

Soon one of our sponsors will visit and suggest the best test pipe. And although it might seem a coincidence, they just happen to sell that brand.

i like the M3 rasp lol makes my car sound like something of superior breed ...

imo still economically speaking i am just buying a piece of steel tube that replaces the cats...
if i spend like 300 on ultra good ones or 100 on semi good ones... its still a pipe that replaces the cats...
im practical like that i dont require much haha

Anyone have a wav file of the sound of test pipes with stock exhaust? I want to make sure its not too loud, i've gotten too many exhaust tickets throughout my life.

I recently put back on my oem y pipe and mid pipe with my test pipes. I was too lazy to finish off with the muffler.

SOO loud.

Dont listen to jvanquish, hes a poor college students.
Price should NEVER be concidered vs quality. There is no point when buying an 'upgrade' for your car where you should be fooled by a part that is sub-par quality for lowering the price of the part.
Pro 1's and megans have horibble welds that you can't even see on the inside of the pipe. They might be good for a while, but if you put stress on the engine like torqueing it when racing or shifting hard, hitting something hard w/ your exhaust when you bottom out or suddenly go from super hot to cool such as hitting a puddle, you can get a cracked test pipe.

If you want to get a test pipe i suggest a test pipe w/ superior flanges since thats teh weakest part. If you're getting resonated i suggest labaree, ultimate racing or kinetix (they might break but kinetix has AWSOME customer support). If you're getting non-resonated, i suggest APS, AAM, XERD. They have nicely welded flanges on thick thick stainless steel piping. Also, the nismo exhaust is known to push against the cat pipe so a weak test pipie will crack easily.
