K&N drop in filter HP increase?

Okay,
Don't flame me for asking this...
If a cooler engine can give us 5 to 8 more HP, why not develop a better engine cooling system to gain HP. What kind of temperature are we looking for? What if we run two radiators? four? Will the hood with the gills help in this regard? How much cooler does the engine need to be?
Just an idea....

I just dropped a K&N filter into my Z. My score:
Results: A
Application: C
I definitely noticed an improvement in throttle response, especially under heavy throttle. At greater than half-throttle I get more jump that I used to get. I like it!
However, I was disappointed in the filter itself. For $45 I expected a filter that fit properly into the air box, not jury-rigged with a couple of hokey stick-on foam shims and still not fitting nearly as good as the original.
And it's not like this is some "specialty application" either, this is the same airbox & same filter as all or most recent Nissans & Infinitis!
Shame, K&N! You need to do better! (And trade in this crap for a properly fitting filter)

I have a k&n filter and I definitly notice a difference to throttle response even if it is a very minor difference it is there I also have the injen pipe connected to my stock air box which may be causing the difference im feeling put them in at the same time.
Many people don't realize that completely removing the engine's thermostat can actually make the engine overheat. The thermostat acts as a constriction within the cooling system, even when it's open. The coolant needs to "dwell" (spend time) in the radiator to dispose of the heat it has picked up from the engine. If the coolant shoots through the radiator too quickly, no heat is transferred from the coolant to the atmosphere. The coolant gets hotter and hotter until the engine overheats.
I've heard that removing the thermocouple (the part that moves) from the thermostat so that nothing remains but the housing is enough restriction to retain the proper cooling. This supposedly also allows the engine to run cooler. I've never tried it.

Like with a 160 or 180 if you are gonna go as far as remove the housing?
One thing is that it might effect the fans temp turn ons.
Hypertech's programmer let's you adjust your two fans for a 160 stat. We **really** need a programmer/flash/chip/ecu whatever for our car. I think right now it is the most needed mod for what we all are currently doing.
Plugs, stats, wheel size changes, intakes, exhausts, etc.
And I won't be paying 2k for it either!!!!
Anyone listening out there, give us import guys a break!
Even Supe Chips dropped there import line!! Booh!!!

The bottom line with this car is that noone knows much yet about what will result in what, the strength of the block, etc. K&N's, generally speaking, will add horsepower, it's been proven. Until someone has tested the stock filter and the K&N (which it sounds like has been done, in this thread), everything's just guesses. Who's to say you'll get 1hp out of a K&N. Why not 2? That's totally a guess.
