Default Injen SES - volume increase with TP/HFC and headers?

I currently have an Injen SES Straight-Tip exhaust and absolutely love the sound and volume. All the threads complaining about its loud nature scared me, but I was pleasantly surprised after starting it up for the first time, and now I've grown used to the sound. I also purchased Helix test pipes from the same member I bought the exhaust from, but have yet to install them. I have a couple quick questions for other Injen owners:

-After installing test pipes, how much LOUDER did your exhaust get? I've read that some rasp will appear around 4000 RPM, but does the exhaust get noticably louder when you're not at WOT? My girlfriend already complains about how loud the car is right now, I don't want to **** her off too much!

-Those owners that have headers and TP/HFC... did the installation of the headers affect the sound of your car much? I've read a couple of threads that said there was very little change in sound, and have not heard a car with headers in person yet, so I'd like some opinions / testimonials, preferably from some Injen owners with TP / headers.

Any input would be appreciated, I'm just trying to feel out my future mods before they go on the car.

MUCH louder with non resonated test-pipes, resonated tp's or HF cats wouldnt be nearly as loud. Listen to my car going down the tarck when I was NA running Injen + test-pipes...

Alberto, did you notice a big difference in volume when you were just driving around town after you installed your test pipes? I'm not really worried about how loud it is @ WOT, just when cruising around town.

With test pipes you should hope that the exhaust is louder. The test pipes are less restrictive than the OEM catalytic converters, and allow a greater volume of air to pass through the exhaust. More air:more noise.

Similar with high flow catalytic converters. For free flowing exhaust, less restrictive than the OEM catalytic converters, but not as free flowing as test pipes.

So loud and free flowing are synonymous.

And headers and pump up the exhaust noise a couple of more decibels. It can't be helped.

And for comparison here is a video of my car with the Injen true dual and Helix high flow cats:

Yes its much louder from idle to WOT and everything in between. Only cruising at like 10% throttle does it get quiet.

I have the injen super ses duals running w/ hfc and its already very loud. I did notice a difference when I added the injen cold air intake besides running smother the sound changed a bit, could just be my imagination who knows? I am planning on installing borla headers, has anyone done this? sound clips would help? I really do not want my Z too much louder then this since it is my daily driver. Thanks!

The Injen SES is pretty loud @ WOT however it sounds badass in person. Under light load it is pretty tolerable. Here are some vids I made during a dyno meet last year so you have an idea of what it will sound like:

I have a similar set-up. As I mentioned above, headers will increase exhaust flow, and the result will be more noise. Noise is subjective, but it will be more loud.

Thanks for the info, davidv I also have the kinetix high flow cats. I was not impressed with the fact that they did not come with mounting points similar to the stock cats that could be attached to the stock bracket for added support. Every other brand of these I have seen has some sort of mounting point for the stock bracket, have you modified yours at all. I plan to take it to an exhaust shop and have them customize a bracket that can attach to the vehicle and weld it on. Has anyone else done this? Need more info, thanks!

I knew when I bought the High Flow Catalytic Converters that they did not have brackets. What I didn’t realize is how heavy they are. Mine are as is. Several 350Z owners have had a shop weld brackets for support.
