I always prefer to give a low estimate. If I say 10 horsepower, and a member gets 5, then they are pissed. If I say 5 and a member gets 10, they are happy.

LOL. The install went fast because Rob (?) knew exactly what had to be removed. To install the header bolts, my skinny hands were perfect.

See, this is why I think the shops in my area are trying to rip people off. One of the shops I called to get a header quote specializes in Z's and Nissans in general. The guy on the phone claimed that he has done over 20 header installs himself, and said it would take 8 hours @ $70/hour. You would think after 20 pairs of headers he would be able to shave a little time off his install... or maybe he just doesn't want to.

just my .02 but i think you should also coat your headers with jet hot to keep the engine bay temps down. headers put out a tremendous amount of heat and things are pretty tight in that engine bay. i went with the 2k coating to handle the high temps...i forget how much but around 200 or so. i was happy with mine (dc sports ss) and picked them up for under 400. since i had high flow cats, fuji y pipe and fuji ti exhaust i thought why not do the whole exhaust. all depends on what your looking for, but the gains really are not that much...but if you have the rest of the exhaust installed then they are worth it. the self install will save you about 400 but its no cake walk...a pita to say the least

i have alphawerks and installed them myself. I think overall they are nice to have.. mine were extremely discounted from nexus so I jumped on it.. however, if i had to buy them i dont think i would. The install took 2 days to do on jackstands, but yeah i was overall happy with the results.

+1 for Jet-Hot 2000 coating. Glad I did it.

heres a thought. I have a cai, plenum spacer, Testpipes and TD exhuast. Should I even bother with the headers or just go ahaed and get the utec to bring it all together from this point. is the breathing really incomplete without the headers?

Today we dynoed one of my friend's Z, and he made 259 rwhp and 250tq with DC Headers, Injen CAI, UR Crank Pulley, and 1/4" AAM Plenum Spacer. I was pretty impressed with those numbers for those mods, especially since he is running very rich (mid 11's from 4K rpm to redline) and he has the stock exhaust and stock cats. The headers definantly helped him gain some nice power.

Sounds like some good #'s Jaki. If your friend does cats / exhaust and re-dynos, you should post up the new #'s.

He bought the HKS Hi-Power True Dual exhaust and the Kinetix Resonated test pipes. He was going to install them before the dyno and then dyno it, but some things came up, so he just dynoed yesterday. He will bring in the exhaust and test pipes next week and then redyno it. I'm looking forward to seeing some nice numbers from that. After that he's planning to get an e-manage and tune it, because he's running very rich.
