Close to stock exhaust sound?
Hey I'm lookin to buy a new exhaust. I really love the sound of the stock setup, but just want it louder. What would you guys recommend for that? I don't want anything thats too loud and annoying. I've browsed the sound clips page a fwe times, and I'm kinda diggin the Fujitsubo Legalis-R. Also, I'm tryin to stay a bit below the $1000 mark. Any help is much appreciated

Or you can put out $300 more and get the bling HKS dual like I did
Nismo sounds great. I keep thinking about ditching my Borla for it (bought it for a great deal though). I feel like the Nismo sounds more exotic whereas the Borla sounds more mean.
The Fujitsubo Legalis-R is definitely a good choice if you're looking for an exhaust that is a tad bit more aggressive sounding during daily driving & a beast during WOT. IMO, it still retains the distinctive VQ sound the Z has & does not have droning issues. I currently have this setup & I have no complaints. The only thing I would say that some people may or may not like is the large tips. My suggestion though is to find some members local to you so you can actually hear their setup. Choosing exhaust systems, especially for sound, is very subjective & can easily change from car to car depending on what additional mods they have. Meaning, two cars may have the same exhaust systems yet one can sound slightly different due additional mods such as cats/test pipes, headers, intake, etc...
Note: You may see a lot of requests or posts on sound clips but I can assure you that it will be distorted so definitely listen to it in person. What sounds good to one person may not necessary fit what YOU are looking for.
Good luck & Happy Modding!

headers+hf cats.........like stock, but louder and deeper; plus you get far more power than you would from an exhaust alone (and no low-end tq loss)

Having heard the Nismo, Borla, and Stillen...honestly...none of them are like stock. They all make a bit more noise when cruising. The Borla sounds a little deeper and more throaty...the Nismo more shrill...the Stillen was pretty loud but had less drone than the Borla. After hearing them all, I sorta liked the stock tone best...just wished it was louder...so I know what u mean.

Eventually I do plan on picking up headers, and cats, which I know will the sound will be louder. I just love how the stock exhaust sounds. I know after adding aftermarket parts, that it will never be the same, so that's why I'm looking to get the closest that I can find. I don't want to be cruising around in the Z while it's sounding like a Civic with a fart-can, you know what I mean?

You're not going to make any serious gains with exhaust anyway... at least not $/hp wise.

Any suggestions on Ypipes of HFcats? I'm not sure all what's out there.
go headers, test pipes, aftermarket y-pipe, nismo b-pipe and stock muffler...
get pro-1 test pipes or any legitimate HFC
jic y-pipe is good but kind of expensive, try tanabe or pro-1 again...

Top Speed, Tanabe, AAM, JIC, Powerhouse Amuse
bigK...
I was in the same boat and decided to go with the Nismo. It's basically the same as stock, just bigger piping, a little less packing in back, SS construction, you know it's going to fit and the ETCHED oval tips are beautiful.
I've yet to install mine, so I can't comment on EXACTLY how it sounds compared to stock. I'm assuming/hoping it will be a little more aggressive sounding than stock
If you look hard enough you may find one for around $900.
