Default APS Dual Exhaust

I posted this on the Texas forum and got a couple of good responses. Thought I might try for more!

Next addition will be dual exhaust on my '05 Base. I spoke with Shawn @ SGPRacing here in Houston where I got my new JWT pop-charger (love the gain, love the sound) and, given that I'm an old guy , he recommended the APS. I'd like a noticeably deeper note. I have no intention of going FI. I've heard the Injen at idle and it sounded good but was told that after break-in and at higher speeds it can become raspy (I THINK I know what that is!). I don't want a drone in the cabin at between 3 and 4K RPMs, either. 3K is where 80MPH is and that's a pretty common speed for me on the interstate. I'm told that the APS doesn't do these things. I've done some surfing about the APS and haven't found very much info. It's a bit more expensive than some of the favs and before I do the deed, I'd like to hear from some of the experienced exhaust folks. I've heard some of the sound clips of different exhausts but don't think I should trust those for making a purchase. Sorry this is so long-winded. Help!

I got my Borla True Dual a while back and loved it. Deep sounds below 2000 - 2500 then above that, it just get's "stronger" sounding. BUT, then I got a popcharger and my car literally growls!!!!! I love the sound so much, I prolly won't go FI because of that reason. The Borla and Popcharger are a very nice combo. Don't think you could go wrong. Hope that helped! Good luck.

Best way to decide is to hear them in person and make your own decision.

Here's a video of my HKS Dual Ti...I have test pipes on during the video:

Video was taken with my s230 digital camera and doesn't completely capture how sweet this exhaust sounds.

Good Luck!!!

Hey, man, thanks for the reply. I'll definitely take the Borla under consideration. What about drone in the cabin? That worries me.

i have no drone, borla is pretty quiet exhaust system, it just has a deeper tone then stock. borla can be had for less then $750 shipped from one of our lovely vendors.

The APS sounds great on TT apps, but not as good on a n/a setup. with cats it is fine, but once you throw a set of test pipes on, I don't think you will be happy with the sound.

For a n/a setup look into the following exhausts:
Borla
Nismo
Greddy evo2
HKS
IMO, there are going to be your best choices. If you think you may go TT, then definitely consider the APS, I love mine

I agree. No drone here either. I swear it sounds like an exotic!!!! I just wish I could save the note, and make it louder! Seriously, I listen to the exhaust note more than I do the radio. It's just that sweet. Period.

^heh weenie :-p

Honestly its a huge piece of metal pipe...ur pretty safe. You will test a few exhausts before you settle in on 1..u might as well start somewhere.

Ihave this exhaust. W/o test pipes, its a very quiet exhaust..very mature i guess. Not at all a boy racer exahust..its pretty a serious exhaust... Thats all i can say to explain it. If you've heard a stock STi its just about as loud as that..maybe a few decibles louder.

plumpzz, how much are the APS 2.5" Test Pipes? Is there anything else I would need to go with them?

Did you install yourself? If so, pretty easy?

If you do not like a loud exhaust do not buy the aps. I just sold mine yesterday due to the noise levels in and out of the cabin area. Going back to Borla...

Are you referring to the 2.5" or 3" APS? I have the APS 2.5" and I swear it's just as quiet as stock...if not quieter. It's extremely quiet on my car. I don't know if the turbos are muffling it at all though? I also have stock cats.
