Default $800 intake?

yo guy, after looking for an intake for a while, I decide to go with non-oil type filter. According to my research, it is seem that the oil type ( Nismo CAI, injen, K&N, etc ) will cause oil to stick to other intake component like MAF, throttle body, intake track, etc.

Now, the non-oil type are just HKS, Blitz SUS, and ARC. Blitz is a stainless steel filter....I don't really trust the filtration level on this thing. HKS, I think it similar to Greddy Intake and I read somewhere in this forum which say that they are more like rock filter ( the filtration on these filter are so bad that it let many stuff get into engine).

So, now my option is only ARC. But if I go this route, it will be $515 for the air box and $310 for the intake tube . That **** load of money to spend on an intake system. My only question is that is the ARC stuff worth it? Forget about the bling factor here, are they stuff really that good?

Anyone with any comment or experience please help.

many ppl have and still using the "oil type" filter, since it won't drench the filter during rain. ARC is all about the name. but if you want it go ahead...but 800 for an intake...that's ridiculous. you sound like a noob about cars... just don't read too much crap out there. you should get the JWT with a UTR tube...total would run you about $230. intakes are all the same in my book, except cai will make a little bit more but not by much at all. if you get the ARC intake...you will be more respected when you show your car to performance JDM geeks. like me. i heart ARC..but i can't see myself paying for that since i don't show off my car. gl

$800 for 5-6hp at most. um, yea, that's cost efficient, heh.

ARC is complete garbage compared to Grupe-m Reasons are, there "airbox" isnt sealed and therefore doesnt increase response. just bling not to mention it loves to attract heat. The specific heat of aluminum vs. carbon fiber is ridiculous. i own the gruppe-m and i couldnt be happier. i think ARC is good with cooling products but i would stay away from other products that dont use the cooling fins.

If ARC showed a significant performance improvement over the other major intake brands, we would all have one.

I shopped for a intake which...

a. Easy installation
b. Fresh air from outside the engine bay
c. Easy assess to filter for cleaning

Quality of materials, fit and performance is excellent.

If you don't want oil, just use paper filters and keep the OEM box. You can still make gains with a plenum spacer, the OEM box can suck plenty of air.

i have the K&N Typhoon as well, but i find in stop start traffic on warmer days i get heat soak - basically the car feels sluggish. The K&N for me only seems to have better throttle response when the air is cold

which is why im leaning towards the Gruppe M now, and will keep the K&N polished intake tube for the 'bling'. Im going to be installing a Greddy Informeter soon, and im going to monitor the intake temp while driving in different conditions, and see whether fitting the CF lid or sealing the gap where the intake pipe butts up against the airbox, gets the temps down. I might even try layering some heat insulation wrap inside the airbox, or using some rubber weather stripping around the top of the airbox so it seals when the bonnet is closed

another thing i did with the Typhoon was fit an inverted cone K&N filter. I figured air would ram into the open top of the filter from the intake pipe, rather than sucking in hot air from the sides of the airbox. I cant tell a difference driving the car, but i do find the top of the filter gets clogged with dirt very quickly, so there is definitely air ramming into it

Just spend $110 and get the JWT Popcharger. The filter has a small heat shield and is located in the same location as shown in post 14 above. Why spend $250-800 for something that gives you the same performance gains, or worse gains than the PROVEN $110 JWT? Just my $.02.
