Nismo + Random Tech cats

Pros: Sounds really throaty above 2500 rpm, roars above 4000
cons: Looks similar to stock, rasp kicks in under hard acceleration

Overall I'm really happy. I've got a set of Helix TP's that I want to swap in just to check out the difference.

well the tips are very similar to stock...
if the car isnt lifted in mid air to show the borla insignia...
-.-...
it looks MORE stock like than the nismo because the nismo tips are more tilted up

so overall is borla a good sounding exhaust? Do i have to get headers and the exhaust at the same time or can it be on different dates? One other thing, if i get the borla exhaust, do i have to get borla headers too or can i just get any set of headers?

DC headers, Crawford Cats, Nismo exhaust

Pro- Sounds awesome above 4k rpm very exotic, and loud. Quiet when driving around town. No drone or rasp. Amplifies original Z exhaust note.

Cons- Should of got HKS Hi power.. that thing sounds awesome.

Yeah but I think the HKS makes more power than the Nismo. But I agree I love my Nismo exhaust. Wouldn't change it for the world.

I have nismo cat back exhaust and kinetix hi-flo cats plus stillen intake,V+ plenum, and KJR pulley. Nismo was on 8K before the cats. I liked the sound, especially when blended w/ the breathing mods.
The cats signifigantly changed the exhaust note after being on about a week, especially above 3000 rpm. At WOT, my car SCREAMS.
I've come to like the louder, more agressive exhaust note, but can certainly understand why some (i.e. those whom I pass @ high rpm) would not.
My advice is to experiment and see what works for you, but ALWAYS keep your stock parts.

"similar" but still not indistinguishable as maximXL stated

borla tip = double walled
stock tip = single

borla tip has "borla" stamped on the side
stock has nothing stamped on it

You can mix 'n' match. From what I've read, Borla makes one of the least effective header designs for the Z application. Everyone seems to see far better results from the Crawford and DC headers. The Borla TD cat-back should work well with any TP/cat header combo.

APS 2.5 TD w/ APS 2.5 Test pipes
Pros: sounds very much like a porsche w/ exhaust/test pipes or a STi w/ full exhaust.. Big difference in power.. not loud under 3500RPM..From 2500-4000RPM it sounds like a V8 or a flat 6...very nice and unique
Cons: Loud as hell after 3500 RPMs, very rumbly (if thats a con) and bassy (like flat 4s, flat 6's, if thats a con), rasp from 3500-4000RPM (cause of test pipes)..

I also had the APS exhaust w/ stock cats>..
Pros: Same porsche/STi sound, same V8ish sound..ect
Cons: quiet as *****.. wen i had it and went to a meet, no one even knew i had an exhaust on unless i was over 3000RPM.

For fudge sakes dude. I said "virtually indisitinguishable". That means they look very similar. Of course they're not identical. Geez.

The Borla dual exhaust is a cat-back so they don't get replaced. The only advantage to changing your cats would be to remove them altogether.
