Default 03 For 06??????

So I was at the Nissan dealship today getting the recall problem fixed on my 03 Base Model 350z and I starting talking with one of the salesmen there. To make a long story short they are offering me 2k down and my car payments will stay the same if I trade in my 03 base that has 49k miles on it for an 06 base model. So what do you guys think should I go for it or just keep the Z I have?

Don't negotiate payments. Negotiate price.

YES! 2k is less than what youd pay for the $1200 headlamps and $300 taillights, and spensive 18" wheels. along with a revamped interior, speed variable steering ratio, new front suspension components that dont feather.... hmmm what else... OOO slightly raised decklid (my fav upgrade, yet HARDLY noticeable).

so yah PLUS its gonna have no miles on it@!

The 06 def has a lot of upgrades which is what is making it such a hard decision. My main concern is that I will be starting from scratch with the payments again. I have 3 years left now and if I take on the new Z it will be 6years all over again.

Did you drive a 06? I drove a 06 base and was not impressed, it did not have the sports car feel imo.

If I ever trade in my 2003 Touring, it will be for a 05 Touring. I wouldn't go for a 06 with less torque and more wieght.

It is easy and not that expensive to get that extra 15 TQ back, but it would be hard and expensive to lose 200 pounds.

nissan is smart, they did it for a reason. 300hp is a damn good selling point. torque? not many people understand torque and not many care nor do most buyers care about the weight. we enthusiasts know about these things. nissan was smart. even if they were to lose performance by going to the 300hp revup and adding 300lbs, they knew it was the smart thing to do since the normal car buying ignoramace would only look at the horsepower rating.

I didn't say I hate the 2006. When is giving an opinion about your preference far a car to have more torque and less wieght being "haters"? Saying that you would choose a 2005 instead of a 2006 because you want less weight and the extra 15TQ is not hating.

And, yes, Nissan added the 200 pounds of extra wieght for a reason, mostly for sound deadening materials for people who don't care about weight and just want a quieter sedan like ride. Some of us would rather have less weight and the noise of a sports car.

And about the 300HP increase... what Nexx said above.

I would wait for the new Z that will be coming out within the next year or two. IMO I couldn't justify trading in the car because nothing major has been changed.

I did not realize that there was less torque and more lbs. on the new Z. So unless someone can make a good arguement as to why I should take on 3 more years of payments for a car with less power, then the 03 will stay with me.

Yes, the newer Z's weigh a few hundred more and have slightly less torque. No one above mentioned that the 06's have forged internals and respond to mods better though.
If your not interested in better headlights, tail lights, internals, interior, and mod response then stay where you are. Oh, and there is always the MREV + that fixes the little torque problem.
I can't say that I would be quick to take on 3 more years of payments though for the same model car though.

There is no really good arguement for that, if you have'nt done major mods. to your car in 3 yrs. you most likely won't do any to an 06, even if your moderately happy with your 03, soon as the new wore off the 06 you'd be right back where you are now. Save your money.

You're right with the +300lb being bad.

But you're wrong to think a +14lb of PEAK torque is better! It's no better than someone going for PEAK HP either.

The revup engine is better because it keeps a higher torque curve in the upper 4-7k rpm. Area under that curve is what is important. And nobody races below 4000rpm...

Sooo.. the best deal would be a '05 Track with the rev-up engine and lighter weight!
