Question Need Help With Cold Air Intake!!

So I am shopping and searching the forums for the BEST cold air intake on my 05 350z. There are about 100 different brands and about 1000 different opinions on which is best. I want the best one and price will not matter seeing that I don't want to buy a cheap one that is not effective. I plan on an HKS exhaust and S/C in the future. So with that said: What is the best intake and average cost of the product?? Thanks guys.

BTW: I did use the search forum with confusing results.

if you get a supercharger you won't need the cold air so don't spend too much. Injin is a popular brand that sounds cool high rpm's but some will say your hp decreases with the Injin

Correct. Pro charger above. Note that the intake is part of the super charger kit.

That looks sic!! Though I was planning on getting a Vortech S/C for saftey reasons. I have read on this site that Vortech is one of the safest and easiest on the motor. I am not wanting to do alot of internal engine upgrades. My Pops has a Vortech on his ZO6 and it seems like a clean safe setup. I will be researching alot more about S/C b4 I make the choice though. I am not sure if the Vortech has the intake connected like the pro-charger.

Visit the forced-induction forum. Plenty of photos there.

It does appear that the Vortech is installed on the air intake somewhat like the Pro-Charger S/C soooooo should I get the Pop Charger? Alot of people seem to like it here and it was suggested in this thread for the S/C. Things get sooo confussing with all of the different info that is posted. I dont mean to be a pain in the **** but I also don't want to do things more than once. That just aint feesable!!! The dealer was trying to upsell me on the nisimo intake but I said no, just like all of the other millions of upsells they were throwing at me ie: zaino, theft stickers, warranty, ect, ect.

The Stillen super charger like other super chargers has a unique intake. BTW the 350Z above belongs to Z-Toyz.

That Stillen looks cool as hell!!! I bet all that cost a penny or two. Damn. But I will prob go with the Vortech. And I dont think it comes with an intake. I wonder if I should not get one or get a pop-charger? I will hit up some Vortech users I guess.

You have to figure out what you want...a S/C or an intake. How long are you going to wait to go S/C..and why? Just go S/C and forget about the intake. OOOORRRRR, if your waiting for $$$$ just get the JWT popcharger. It's only $109.00, sounds mean and supposedly adds 6 rwhp.

P.S. that Stillen S/C looks gay IMO. It belongs on a muscle car not the Z. The Vortech and the Procharger look more the part IMO...Like DAVIDV or whomever said go to the F/I section to get more info.

if you go supercharger, especially vortech. be ready to deal with lots of noise and regular belt maintainence. surperchargers in general arent good for the ears when idling.

Thanks for the honesty guys. I am waiting a couple of months for a few more $$$ on the S/C so I may just go with the pop-charger for the time being. I do like the looks of the Pro charger better than the Stillen but I think Vortech is a better deal all around. Headed to the FI section to research the diff between the Pro charger and Vortech!! Peace Im outy 5000!!!!

So I scraped the intake idea and I am going straight to an exhaust. Now the hunt begins for the best exhaust at the best price. HKS!!

I am going to be the devil's advocate and say just skip the intake mods. The stock airbox does a good job, the filter is easy to change, it does not suck up water and does not stall the engine at speed.

Superchargers _do_ benefit from a cold air intake due to the following equation PV= nRT from which you get P1/T1= P2/T2. "The most important and effective thing you can do to improve blower efficiency is to keep the intake charge as cool as possible."

Note: Superchargers _work_ by maximizing the volumetric efficiency of the engine. Roots SC work like a water pump. Centrifigal SC work like a fan.

The standard intercooled Stillen installation uses the left fender well for the displaced radiator overflow reservoir. A smart mechanic can install an overflow reservoir from another car behind the bumber so it is still possible to use a Nismo CAI with an intercooler and a Stillen SC.
