Just a few general comments here.....

I've heard both exhausts as well......without headers & HFC, both seem similar in sound...the Borla a little quieter than the Nismo at high RPM's. With headers & HFC (Crawford's at least) the Nismo becomes quite a bit louder than the Borla at WOT. I have the Nismo with the Crawford's and love it.... but I can understand some people wanting the Borla for a little more refined/ civilized noise level with headers & HFC.

As for install, the Nismo is a simple "bolt-off...bolt-on" undertaking - all connections are factory locations. With the Borla, there are numerous pieces involved (Borla is a true-dual system) - want to make sure the pieces all line up to prevent rattles, rubbing, etc. Some have even had the pieces spot-welded after install to make sure the pieces don't shift/move. After installing headers & HFC, my Nismo had to be moved and shimmed a bit to prevent rattles as well - no biggie on either system.

As for performance, most quality exhausts perform within 2-6 HP, or there abouts, of each other. You'll enjoy either system

I recommend that you

a. Set a budget.
b. Decide what configuration you want. Single. Dual. One or two mufflers. Y-pipe?
c. Shop for catback exhaust systems which meets your budget and selection criteria.
d. Pick your favorite.

thank you that was very helpful...down the road i will most likely do the HFC

and being the nismo is bolt on i think i am going with that....me and my friend are going to tackle this one...since the borla isnt bolt right on that means i have to bring it to a shop.

You could install the Borla yourself. It just takes a lot more time. I wouldn't attempt to install the Borla without a lift and a lot of patience. The Nismo will be MUCH easier to install.

If you can, try to hear each system for yourself. I wouldn't decide based just on install time.

I would go with the nismo. I had the Borla TD for about a year and got tired of it and went the nismo. I too had to adjust the Borla Y pipes when I did the HFCs and then again with the headers. Never again will I use a slip-fit system. GO NISMO!

I also have the Nismo exhaust & Crawford cats. I have been nothing but pleased with the set up. The sound is absolutely amazing, very exotic.

Borla makes a nice exhaust, but too many pieces to worry about coming loose or leaking.

Good luck with your decision.

The Borla Y pipe? You must be talking about the old Borla exhaust, not the Borla TD cat-back which does not have a y pipe.

As for the Borla TD cat-back, the shop said the quailty of the exhaust were great. they put the exhaust on in less then 2 hours. It's been 13,000km now with no rattles and leaks.

I recently got HFC installed at the same shop, they didn't need to adjust the Borla, they took like 30 minutes to install the HFC. It's now 2,000km with the new HFC and no rattles or leaks.

The Borla sounds great before, but now with the HFC, it's an exotic sounding beast. I've had tons of comments that my exhaust setup sounds like a Ferrari.

But I definately recommend the Nismo, the less 350Z out there with the same sound as mine, the better

Here is some stats from Sport Z magazine to help you decide on what you want:

PEAK HP:
1. Borla 8.2
2. Stillen 8.1
3. Injen 7.6
4. Nismo 6.3
5. 5Zigen -3.4

PEAK Torque:
1. Stillen 7.3
2. Injen 5.1
3. Nismo 4.5
4. Borla 2.7
5. 5Zigen 0.2

Yes, I'm refering the Borla TD, The individual pipes form a 'Y' so I call it like I see it. You are right, about the power figures, I did lose some when I switched to the nismo. The Borla TD was still too quiet no matter what. Also, the lack of flex joints and the pain of removing the exhaust when doing transmission work makes the Borla a true PITA. Either way, it's all personal choice.

Both are great exhausts. If you can afford the Nismo and don't mind the price tag, get it.

we are under $1k and are in NY, so you can pick it up - shipping that thing gets pricey
