Default Help

New header install. Mechanic installed Crawfords, now "service engine soon" light is on. Did a search without success. Should I do the ECU pedal reset? The mechanic had the negative terminal d/c'd during the process. Or will the CEL sensor go out after the engine "relearns" itself?

disconnect the battery, then reconnect it. That should reset everything and your check engine light should go off. If it comes back on, it could be a damaged O2 sensor.

Just did the pedal method for the 7th time and it worked. Hopefully the SES light will stay off. Timing really is CRITICAL with this method

Jes, if you are going to mod your car, it is worth it to pick up an OBD2 scanner... about $60-100 depending on what model you get. They can read codes AND clear them. I keep one in my Z all the time.

That's odd -- it seems that some cars are more sensitive than others... I have done this about 5 times in my car and it worked everytime. But some people have trouble getting it to work at all.

BTW- this is wrong... I'm pretty sure it needs a couple of hours. Most people just leave it off overnight.

I have heard that pressing the brake pedal somehow discharges the system and lets you do it faster, but I've never tried that myself.

Yeah, it took me quite a while to finally get it, and I'm a very sceptical person, but it really did work. I was a little worried that the O2 sensor was damaged. I hope that if it were damaged, the SES light would reappear. Also, where can I find the OBD2 scanner that you mentioned?

I got one at Wal-Mart for $65.00... It has a digital readout and can read and clear codes. I would imagine that any Pep-Boys or AutoZone would have them also.
