I'm looking into which spacer to buy and I've heard good things about the Skunk2 5/8 spacer, however as I look through some of the threads it seems that there has been issues getting it to fit under the hood. Can anyone who owns one offer some feedback? Also if it is a problem, what would be the next best option? Thanks

 

the only fitment issues may be the strut bar hitting the top of the plenum, which is common with spacers. The skunk2 spacer is supposed to be alright, but their are alternatives.
I personally bought a motordyne 5/16 spacer and i like it a lot. Install was a breeze and fitment was perfect.

 

did the motordyne give a noticable power difference?

stop reading stupid tuner mags. I've never seen/heard anything good about this thing other than being cheaper than motordyne or aam.

 

well then showstopper, just ask audible how his is doing, because i dont think he's had a problem with it. And his 12 sec. passes with just bolt-ons, the crappy skunk2 spacer included, proves it!

 

 

I might be getting this also, but I really don't want to lose the strut bar. Any conformations on whether or not the strut bar will not fit?

yes a plenum spacer is a plenum spacer. skunk2 works just fine. your hood will hit and you cant use your factory strut bar. i love mine.


BUT if you are looking for a more complete package (with directions, LMAO) then you should look into motordynes whole deal.

i think that skunk2 knows what they are doing in the honda world and would love to see more products from them. a lot of people bashed their spacer on the site and hopefully that wont make them just give up on our market.

 

i agree, i would love to see skunk2 make more products for our car. Any company that could increase our market would be much appreciated!

 

Here's what I've found.

Be sure to use lots of silcone on the back side of the spacer where it doesn't cover the factory gasket to prevent a vacuum leak. It's 5/8" height eleminates use of the 350Z's stock strut bar and maybe the engine cover. The G35's full engine cover is history after installing this spacer.

 

with minor trimming and fitting you can use either a G or Z engine cover.

i had a G sedan before the Z and made it work for both. the hood wont hit on the G but does hit on the Z

 

Interesting! The engine cover interferred (rubbed) the hood insulation on my friend's G35 Sedan. A production difference? After fixing the vacuum leak, we didn't take the time to make the engine cover fit.

good for him, but I didn't say there were problems with it. I said there is no substantiated evidence that the skunk2 spacer is better than the motordyne or aam (other than the cost). I'll pay a hell of a lot more for a product that has been tried and tested by countless members of this site, not to mention the excellent support and service that both motordyne and aam has provided this community. what has skunk2 provided this or any other Z forum? sorry but I'll send my dollar to a company that takes the time to convince me they've got a great product and the ***** to back it up IN PERSON, rather than a honda part company that's made one part for us and doesn't even bother to reach out to the people who are supposed to buy it.

If you can find me 1000 people that purchased the skunk spacer and are dissatisfied with the product, then perhaps i will think differently.

If you would rather spend the money with someone who is a contributor to the site and our car community, then i have no problem with that as I tend to agree and have/and will continue to purchase products from site sponsors rather then on E-BAY.

Sometimes, for some people its a matter of saving money. I feel this product is acceptable and does have some performance gains and am just sharing my thoughts, on this product. Also am trying to be as fair with it as I can from what i know.

With all that in mind, i did decide to purchased my spacer from Motordyne some time ago, after talking about it with him in a thread or two and reading about it.

 

I have the skunk2 spacer and i believe the thicker the spacer the more power you get and if it rubs then quit wining and buy a different hood. If you want to settle with a smaller spacer and less hp then go with the other ones.
