The tips are alittle bit longer on the prototype. However I mentioned that to Tanabe before they started production, so they shortened it so it is flushed with the rear bumper now. The only current picture I have right now is this http://mynismo.com/images_products/4093.jpg . This weekend I will post some pictures of under the car.

personally i like the look of the hyper, its pretty darn sex.
i dont have enough cash to buy the touring just yet, and ive found quite a few hypers in my area..

any suggestions?
From Tanabe's website it says the hyper is under 95db and the medallion under 93db. So it might be abit louder but not by much would be my guess.

So if anyone would like to start a Group buy for the Tanabe Medalion let me know.

sweet! i might actually just save up for the touring though. that 2db is a big difference imo, as it can get me the fix it ticket, or not.

closely studying the touring, i found that i want it. badly.

Right now I am working on the groupbuy details and will hopefully be making a new thread tomorrow with all the information.

Thank you

Any idea on what drives the price difference of about $100 in Medallion Hyper Vs the Touring? Only visible diff. I can see is the double wall/angle tip on the touring which doesn't seem to be sufficient to drive the higher cost....all per the Tanabe site.

Tanabe also notes that each 3db increase in sound level, doubles the noise. So the 2-3 db difference in these two systems must be significant if I understand it correctly.

I prefer a two canister design but the Medallion Racing appears to hang down a bit much for my taste. Also has 60mm piping vs. 70mm on the Hyper and Touring models. Any engineers out there have any insight on how these differences will affect flow?

Also any thoughts on how a single canister sounds vs. double? I like the deeper, throatier sound vs. the more exotic Lambo/Ferrari note.

What about weight? Two canisters (on these systems) vs. one?

The Tanabe system looks nice but I'm still not sure which one to go with.

Your ideas and insight would be appreciated.

I'm leaning towards the Tanabe Touring w/ Tanabe Y-pipe myself.
For those that are interested I have a connection that can get Tanabe products at a fairly inexpensive price. PM me what you want w/ Pt.#'s and shipping zip codes and I'll forward it to him. He is currently looking into becoming a vendor here also.

m1james,

I've been looking at the Tanabe exhausts for some time, and have had trouble deciding as well. I'm leaning heavily towards the touring-- it's the quietest and bar-none the best looking model. If I ever do go for other modifications like the plenum spacer and HF cats, the car will still be relatively quiet, which is very appealing for me. I could do without another ticket. On a stock car, the it's quiet, but has a nice deep resonance, which is what I like. The Hyper is very very similar, and I think the actual loudness is very close to the touring.

The Super Racing Medalion and Ultra have a bit more of that higher pitched Lambo type of sound. I think "ReavTek" had some sound clips of his SMR's posted, do a search for his name. Very aggressive and mean sounding, but will probably become a bit on the very loud side when other mods are added.

I prefer the OEM single canister look. The two canisters are probably a tad lighter, but all the dual can systems seem to be really loud. I think the dfference between a 70mm pipe and two 60mm pipes is insignificant, unless you're FI.
