Default Coolant temp? please read.

Well you guys might laugh, I have a local dyno around lol. I want to know where my "Coolant temperature sensor" is. CAn someone show me a picture of where its located? or tell me exactly ( right on the dot) where its mounted or where to find it? (below car or above) (something need be removed to see it) Going to try some of these "ebay" chips that claim 22hp lol. I'll give feedback later. I tried 4 dif mechanics and neither wanted to attempt to find it lol. Dyno shop owes me a favor, i just need do the install. please show me where its at! i tried the search function too btw.

here's a diagram from the manual. It is item #4. I'm not sure where it is in the overall scheme of things but if you lift the hood and have this diagram in hand I'm sure it will become obvious.

When the coolant temp [sensor as analysed by ecu] exceeds 199F timing advance is decrease...........1 degree for every 5Fbeginning at 200F..........when the coolant is not warmed to 160F you are still in warm up mode.
Ideally the sensor should report 176-180F regardless of heat.........just some summer protection built in program.

The oem radiator is too small to always keep the coolant below 199F in Summer AC on at 100F ambient idling in gear.........data log the coolant vs time you will gain some insight as to what happens at a traffic light or in bumper to bumper extended idling.

Fooling [recalibrating] sensors outputs to try to fool ecu into doing something often creates more problems.

lol ya, but a few runs on the dyno aint going to do nothing horrific. just curious. kinda off topic, but is there some kind of "programmer" on the market for this car?? when I had my 03 cobra there was a "diablo predator" tuner that can load programs on the car and get increases of 20-30 hp. I was able to change alot of settings on the car ( traction control, timing, fuel, rpms etc...) it goes for $350 new, but used usually $200. price for the product for the 350z?

there are lots of things, do a search for engine management, utec, unichip, greddy, etc.

if you want cooler engine coolant temps, i would run some purple ice with distilled water, when i was NA my coolant temps dropped 40 degrees F.

i hollowed out the thermostat also but wouldnt recommend that if you are anywhere that gets cold. the car will run in limp mode because it cant heat up enough

the coolant temp plug is on the back of the top of the engine, right under the back of the plenum, i believe its blue but it goes right into the silver coolant pipe that crosses the back of the engine...

Obviously a larger volume of coolant will delay the temperature rise and let the thermostat function even in hotter ambient.
In a way you want to see a hotter coolant IF IT MEANS the coolant is absorbing more heat from the cylinder heads. What's important is the cylinder head [combustion chamber] real temperature............the coolant sensor is just an inexpensive proxy that averages both cylinder heads.

The knock sensors clean up the errors that the ecu makes [too much advance or not enough extra richness to cool the cylinders].

Never letting the coolant exceed 195F under any conditions is probably the best after market mod you can make.
