Default New to Exhaust

Im new to exhaust so bare with me I been looking at cat-back systems. Specifically the HKS. Is there any reason to change the y-pipe if I get the HKS?

No, because the HKS comes with its own Y-pipe.

Get an intake before you get an exhaust too, like the JWT popcharger or another brand, they're almost all the same.

Put the car on a lift and look at the exhaust components. Many of the names are self-explanatory. Example: a Y-pipe looks like a Y. The cat-back exhaust system is a aftermarket mod. As the name refers, it replaces everything from the catalytic converters back.

Welcome to the forum... four big factors to consider when looking at exhausts.

1) Price - set a price range of what you're willing to spend.

2) Performance - HP & Torque gains. Where in the power curve do you want those gains (low-mid or mid-high)? Are you willing to sacrifice power gains for weight savings? What are your current/future mods? So you'll want to research single tip vs. single pipe/dual tip vs. true dual. Lots of different opinions out there.

3) Sound - Exotic vs Muscle vs Loud vs Quiet. Sound clips online aren't very reliable. Hopefully you can get a chance to look at some hopefulls in person.

4) Look - All up to you.

Figure out which factors are the most important to you, and pick a couple exhausts that fit your criteria. Research the forum and see what members think of them. Pick one and enjoy!

Edit: Personally, the HKS Dual Hi Power Ti would probably be my own first choice, but it's more than I was willing to spend. I've just sent payment to Intense for a new Injen SES Ti.

Stick with the Pop Charger...I have the new injen cai and i am more impressed with my Pop Charger.

Stick with the Stock Exhaust and just save up $$$ So you can go F1

Maybe a JWT Turbo kit through VRT

It is really not worth the money in my opinion for an exhaust that costs $1000+ That only gets you about 10WHP

Save your money for something better

I put a pop charger 1st a long time ago, result - HAPPY
2nd I put some test pipes I got from ZRAYGO, result - Raspy but happy because car felt stronger
3rd I got the HKS True Dual Ti exhaust result - Very Happy

I want to go turbo but realized it wasn't going to happen for a while if at all so I got the HKS. I don't think it has a Y pipe due to the dual exhaust pipes but I may be wrong so please don't crucify me.

End result, the car doen't sound like a Z anymore, it sounds like a ferarri(nothing wrong with that) and I am very pleased. I recommend this set up if you plan to stay conservative.

Your motor has to breath. If you get a turbo kit and keep the stock exhaust you're an idiot. Too much pressure. If you can't afford an aftermarket exhaust for a Z....you should sell it and buy a civic. I went with the Greddy Evo2. Only other exhaust I was considering was the HKS. Both good exhaust.

I got the borla TD... even though, i love this exhaust, i will soon change to the APS true dual, due to my future plans of FI. The borla TD is quiet which i prefer. pretty cheap, also. I've heard the HKS in person, pretty loud IMO. It all depends on your future plans. Good Luck on your decision.
