Hmmm, maybe test pipes could be the kicker! I heard it with HFC's and y-pipe

You should take a look at this:

I have a couple of questions on the HKS exhaust.

1. How much HP gain would you expect by adding this exhaust to a Z with a Vortech supercharger?
2. What's the weight difference between the HKS and the stock exhaust?

I hate to bring up an old thread, but I also did not want to start a new one so I thought this thread was the bets one to inquire. I have an 07 Z and have been going BACK AND FORTH the last 2 weeks between two exhaust systems. It's between the HKS Hi Power TI and Fast Intentions. On a sound level, I prefer FI's, but I have only heard both systems via videos. Looks wise, I do prefer the HKS more than the "stockish" FI tips.

So in absolute all honesty, it comes down to the performance gain. Exhausts to me in the past have all been more the sound than actual gains. It does, however, appear these two systems offer nice real world gains for what it is for a N/A Z. Based on FI's independent dyno, it looks like it gained true real world horsepower at 11 and 9 torque (though I am unsure if this was true bone stock or with their TP or HFC). I have not seen any customer's dyno's on this system though. With the HKS, the numbers seem to be everywhere! From just a few to being in the 15+ figure range. SO my question is, does anyone know pound for pound, which exhaust system provides the true most real world horsepower/torque gain? As you can see I've searched the forum now until 4am'ish and the edge of either just might be the one I finally decide to buy!

On a side note, I spoke to Tony at FI and he more than helped me with the questions I had on his exhaust system. That phone call and the service he provide don the phone alone gave the FI exhaust a slight edge. Either way, I am hoping to pull the trigger by Monday! Thanks in advance!

you'll find when push comes to shove, when you compare any exhaust system out there, from a true dual to a Y pipe + catback setup, it makes ZERO difference power wise - all will be within a couple hp/ft lbs on an NA setup

For what its worth, my 03 dynoed +10-12 with just the HKS exhaust. Dyno comparison was done back to back.

Your ECU doesn't compensate for much at all, really.

Finish all your bolt ons and get tuned.

Some mods make power without tuning, but every car will benefit from tuning, especially modded cars.

I have a hard time believing that since many y-pipe back exhaust produce maybe 5whp and the HKS units have made 12-14whp consistently and the X02 has made 15+whp

I dont think 5 whp and 12whp are within the same range let alone 15+whp gains

Alot of the restriction is in the y pipe itself and to say true duals and y pipe backs exhausts are even close to the same is funny

You can pick up an X02 for 550 and pick up 12-18whp or buy a greddy y pipe back for a little more and maybe gain 5-7whp --- thats a large difference in power and throw some FI in there and I would bet the differences would be even more pronounced

The results have consistently proven me right, and I've had a chance to dyno a ton of different Z's over the years.

Just to repeat what I said, because you are either not understanding, or maybe misread what I wrote: An aftermarket Y pipe + exhaust (NISMO, Fujitsubo, etc etc) yields nearly identical power to a true dual setup on an NA car

here's how i look at it. Don't expect to gain anything from an exhaust. Just get it because it looks nice and sounds nice.

Don't be fooled by these proven dyno sheets unless there is an example of 10 runs without exhaust then average the power. Then 10 runs with the exhaust and average the power. Most dyno sheets will show the cars power band on a weaker run(Your car will fluctuate power between every run, never the same) and then show the most optomistic run with the exhaust.
