Why bother to buy a K&N if you want to keep the stock tube? Buy a popcharger. I bought the K&N for the looks and sound, not for any hp gain. The tube does got hot, by insulating you might get another 1 hp extra. Who cares about 1 hp?

polished metal will run cooler than plastic or black metal. The heat is deflected off the polished surface - to a certain extent, its more engine bay dressup for the Z's power output

??? Plastic conducts less heat than metal, unless you’re referring to the Gold tin foil NASA uses...? It's not like the ambient air that flows thru these intake tubes just sits there stagnate, like an oven or something. It will be cooled in a mater of seconds once the engine starts revving above 1k. IMO, the difference between the two tubes is nothing. I’ve gotten out of my car after revving and racing on a night of 60 degree temps, popped my hood and placed my hand on the plenum, luke warm to the touch, not hot. And this aluminum heat sink is attached to the motor!

So I will never believe the dispute between plastic or metal intake tubes...
