Stock Exhaust sound on steroids...Magnaflow
Well, I had time yesterday to get to the muffler shop, and MAN do I LOVE this new sound. I got the Magnaflow universal muffler instead of the Flowmaster. The Flowmaster runs at 117 CFM and the magnaflow does 160CFM. I figured for the exact same price I'd go with more flow. I'll hopefully get some clips made this afternoon and post ASAP. The sound is a deeper "stock Z" tone, but at WOT it is louder. It basically, IMHO, sounds like a stock Z exhaust on steroids. The deeper tone at idle and low rpms is really nice. I thought I'd get rasp and a rediculously loud sound, but not at all. I REALLY understand why I keep reading..."I can't keep my foot out of it because it sounds so good". The throttle is MUCH more responsive and I am one happy ****. They cut off the stock tips and welded them onto the new muffler, so I still have a stock appearance. For $240 out the door I CAN'T complain...on my budget, I got a clean look, and some perfomance for 1/4 of the price of a custom exhaust. If you don't have much dough to toss into a quality exhaust, you might entertain this as an option.

It's a universal mganaflow. I'll get the Part number and post it.
Yeah...I'll get a TON of flaming on this, but unless the "flamers" wanna pay the "flamees" bills, then they can deal with it. I know of a LOT of Z owners that don't have money just layin' around. Again, I understand...and appreciate...people's advice/opinions, but I think that there's WAY too much whining about what other people do to their OWN vehicles. If you wanna paint it pink and put lime green wheels on it...then do it. I'm not the one who has to drive it. That's my stance.

Yep, your car. Sounds like a good mod to me. The stock exhaust, is not that bad a design. You might want to think about a new "Y", and cats when you can afford it. Reusing your stock tips, was a good idea. I reused one of mine on my truck. I still have one left. The truck looks like this:

You must have read my mind. That is exactly what I thought about when I was under the lift with the installers. Any reccomendations on "reasonably priced" High flow cats and Y-pipes?
That tip looks sweet btw.
Edit: The stock tips are gona have to be repolished though...They are sort of "foggy" from the heat of welding. I'll just bust out the MAAS again, and they'll be like mirrors again.

Here it is --> http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=479
Part #: 12265 Camaro/Firebird. MSRP $160.38. I got it for $80...$240 installed. Exhaust tip work was the worst part for them, but it looks good...I think. I'll post up some pics in a second.

Please do. A sound clip would be good too if you get a chance. I'm not really anxious to spend $1500 on exhaust right now.. so maybe a project like this will be enough to keep me entertained for now.

Right on...my buddy is coming down in about an hour or so to help me change plugs
(NGK Iriddiums stock heat range LFR5AIX-11 ) and make a custom black mesh grill for the front of my CS Z . I'll have him do the camera work, so the pics/vids don't look like hell. Well do it right...as good as my 1 megapixel camera will do it that is. LOL

I assume, using the stock photo as reference, that you used the "upper" OUTLET in the photo as the inlet, and the INLET on the photo as the outlet to the right side tip. I don't know how the baffling is arranged inside the muffler, so if somebody with knowledge of the inner workings can chime in, please enlighten me on this: are the exhaust pulses going into the outlet and going out the inlet going to get FUBAR and adversely affect the overall flow of gases? Is one pipe (the real outlet, I would think) going to get considerably more flow that the inlet pipe being used as the outlet? Are there any other considerations that I'm missing?

Yeah sorry guys. The pics became the LEAST of my worries after I started changing my plugs. The front passenger plug location became a BIG issue. My lil sister's boyfriend was putting the coilpack bolt back in after changing the plug, and it snapped the head off. SO, I now have a bolt that I cannot get out of the head. We tried an easy out and it friggin snapped into the bolt. I gotta call some of my pro mechanic friends today. What a friggin nightmare. Sorry again guys. I can drive it, but I'm worried about that coilpack poppin off.
I'll get back asap.

God I don't even want to take a picture of it for fear of vomiting. We took SUCH care to get that damn thing out, and then the easy-out broke off in the bolt. What a crappy weekend.
