Default HKS buzzing..

So after posting a thread about my HKS True Dual being buzzy, apparently its normal for the exhaust. If this is the case, is there any mod I could do to the exhaust to kill the buzz? Would an x-pipe or h-pipe do it?

what kind of buzz are you getting from it? Is it like a rattle or an actual buzzing sound?

hmm, i don't here buzzing. its deep at less 2500, then it starts to get louder and more high pitched. im guess since its a true dual, exhaust pulses from each header/muffler is opposite eash other making it sound buzzy? i dunno, but one thing i noticed during my install is the b/mid pipe was barely hitting a bolt, i could only hear it when i grabbed the pipe and started shaking it up and down, i got it to clear just enough by adjusting the flange connections

idk, i always thought the vq was a buzzy motor. It makes a clanking noise at WOT w/ all exhausts

The VQ exhaust note will be sort of buzzy like somebody just said. The HKS and the higher pitch tone will make the slight buzz more apparent. Have someone drive your car for you at WOT and see it doesn't sound as bad from outside.

No whats wierd is I can't hear it from inside the cabin, only when standing behind the car (while its revving) or driving by a close wall, can I hear that buzz sound.

Thats just the sound of the motor. Stock does it, its way more apparent w/ free flowing exhausts with an X or H pipe or w/ a single exhaust like nismo or JIC. Sounds like a mechanical clanking. I hate it too :-D

So adding an x-pipe or h-pipe wouldn't make it better at all? Damn.. okay whatever. Sounds sweet as hell from inside the cabin though.

I know some of you will disagree with me on this, but unless if you have a leak, the buzz that you are talking about is called "rasp", which can reprdouced by running the engine under load against a wall.. such that the rasp can be reflected back into the cabin

On the other hand, even thoguh many people like the M3 stock exhaust sound, but many also refer that as very RASPY...

so yah, if you dun like the "buzz", I guess the famous HKS TD isn't for you then..

no no,...there rasp and tehres teh ringing noise that comes from the VQ. I have it and im running straight pipes basically. I had it w/ my APS exhaust, as well as my stock exhaust. Rasp sounds like a 4 cylinder w/ rally headers.

Check your exhaust, or even your header

WTF is your problem? Not every HKS has this hangar problem... I saw you posting on the other HKS thread also.

I have no problem. I think people should be aware of the issue and I would like people to know. You are a smart dude, so I hope that you can understand why I am doing this. If people don't say anything or do the wrong things, HKS will continue to think the design is not an issue. Thats it. Besides I don't understand why you are being so hostile? This is a place where people come to learn and to teach. What I have to say I feel is important. Why diss me for trying to share some of my engineering knowledge.

Its not like I don't know what I am talking about, would you say from reading my input?

All I ask is for an open mind when one reads.

You have to admit, most people don't understand the physics and science behind why things fatigue/fail. All I am trying to do is spead the word in easy to understand termonology. I would appreciated a this info before I purchase d my HKS exhaust.

Anyways lets just all get along and be friends. Maybe get a beer and laugh. Life is to short.

Peace!

You might check to see if the right side pipe is rubbing against the large bolt that protrudes down from the sub-frame (about even with the back tire) I'm having fitment issues with my HKS dual. Initially it would bang off of that bolt. We've since tried to readjust all the hangars and have about a quarter of an inch of clearance and I hear a buzzing noise under acceleration. I think we are going to have to heat the pipe and "dent" it where it passes by the bolt.

Other than the fitment issues, I would say this thing sounds amazing, almost Ferrari like but lacking a few cylinders. This is my third HKS exhaust and the only one that didn't fit perfectly. I need an exhaust for my S2000 and can't decide to go HKS or something else.
