Yup, WD-40, Soap, Grease, Lube, most anything will work.

The older the car, the harder it will be. You may need to use a small crow bar for leverage... just be careful not to rip the hanger.

My car is fairly new, so I just stuck my hand up there and pulled them off.

helps if you use a set of adjustable pliers to pull down the hanger more specifically to widen the hole while pushing up the entire exhaust itself.

Something you might want to note, the bolts connecting the Y-pipe to the mid-pipe can be hard to get off if you don't soak them with WD40 the night before, especially so if they are rusted. I know a couple of people that stripped the bolt and left with torching it.

what you really need is a pry bar, get under the car and use the exhort pipe as your fulcrum, they pop off easy that way. Silicone lube is best but with this method, any lube is optional.

Do not use WD-40 on rubber, it will break it down. Get a silicon spray lubricant, it is for lubing rubber pieces. Can find it in any parts dept. Spray the rubber hanger well, and help pry out with a flathead scewdriver.
