I clean popcharger every 4-6 months now after I got the varis air duct. The combo makes the filter get dirty faster and performance is reduced (not by alot by enough).

Laugh if u want ---I run my K@Ns through the dish washer, cleans the hell out of them and gives a headstart on drying time.

Edit: Had to put this in to avoid bashs----Afterwords I Respray with oil and dry in the sun

I had a super scare with my K&N on my 85 turbo last year at smog time.

I havn't cleaned the thing in over a year.

So the smog is going well, and then the guy walks up to the engine bay with his clipboard, looks around for awhile, then starts motioning for me to come over and pointing at my air clearner, and saying some stuff in broken english. I'm like, ****, hes gonna fail me for having the K&N on there, I'm hosed.

Then I finally understand that he's saying that the filter is too dirty and I need to clean it to get better performance!!!!

Wow, thanks for scaring the **** out of me buddy!

You can clean it with a mild detergent, like simple green, and water. Just spray it with the cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes then rinse it out. Make sure you rinse it from the inside out. That way all the dirt and crap comes off the filter and not forced into it. Also, don't use a lot of water pressure. In other words, dont use the garden hose with it set to stream. That could rip the filter.

Then let it air dry completely. Then spray it with a few light coats of oil until the filter is completely covered. Don't over oil it!!! Then let it dry completely before you renistall it. I would recommend you do it at night and let dry overnight.

That's it!

Yeah, hose it lightly from the inside. Let it dry. Lightly oil the filter on the outside. Let it dry. Don't over do it.
