the blue JWT oil (s&B brand) came out in more of a stream than a spray... is that normal? It kind of made it harder to cover more area and made me worried that I was getting too much in certain spots... i dont think i put too much on, im just worried about coverage. Any spraying tips? Anyone do multiple coats? ... just dry spot touch up?

I'm almost not sure if I oiled my filter enough or not. The entire outside is blue now but there are a few small patchy area when looking at the inside of the filter where there is some white-ish where the oil hasnt entirely soaked through. I basically have one thin coat over the outside. I let the filter sit, but there wasnt any "excess oil" run off or anything like that at all...

If you see any white, that area needs more oil.

I agree that the K&N kit is nice. The aerosol spray is easy to control and goes on light. I basically make quick passes all the way around. Then I make a few "touchup" passes where I missed areas. My technique is pretty much to go as light as possible and then just reapply until it's covered.

Funny, the first time I cleaned my filter I did it in the driveway at dusk. The next morning my wife yelled at me for making a mess in the driveway.

The whitish areas are only on the INSIDE of the filter though, the entire outside appears to be evenly blue in color. Still touch up or no? I know you're not supposed to spray the inside....

Just make sure the outside is fully covered. The inside doesn't matter. I know what you mean that some spots inside aren't fully covered but it doesn't matter.

Spray the outside fully. Check it after a few minutes and touch up any areas you missed. Let it dry then reinstall it. That's it!! I think you are over thinking this.
