Gutting Stock Cats (Secondary Section)
If I gutted some stock cats, namely the secondary section and left the primary intact, will it throw a CEL? Would I need to get nonfoulers? I drive an 05.
Also how "illegal" is this (in CA)..... I am just curious ofcourse.....Cause wouldn't these new cats be like high flow cats, but just look like stock. So if a cop sees, it would pass visual, and the smell wouldn't be THAT bad.....

Smog and when you sell the car so that you are not charged with emission fraud in the future if the new owner finds you sold such a vehicle.
"AS IS" does not protect you in future from emission claims because you must submit a passing certificate..........knowingly applying for such a certificate is the fraud part.

You will definitely NOT throw a CEL, it is absolutely illegal in EVERY state, it is ALMOST like HFCs (some HFCs actually flow better - something about cell size), it WILL make a difference in sound, and it is MUCH cheaper than buying HFCs. I seriously doubt anyone will ever know when you sell the car, much less the state clean air people. It has been done and posted here before. Good luck. I almost did it, but kept my OEMs intact in case I could sell them - they have less than 2k mi on them.
