Default Received and Installed my Stillen exhaust..Little problem

First let me say to words about the exhaust....WOW! EXCELLNT SOUND NOTE! As for power. Feels like more to me.

Now for the problem. My installer told me that the pipe on the right (if looking from the back to the front) was mis alligned where it connects to the right cat. The installer suggested it be sent back but being the impatient person I am I had him drill out the holes a little to get it on. I can't say enough about how great the exhaust sounds. Really nice note in second and third around 4,000 rpm. Photos to follow.

They want me to take the old exhaust system...any reason to keep it? It seems to me that it's just taking up space.
Any suggestions?

Mark,

WTF?! No PM, or phone call saying "You gotta come over here and check this out!" Damn dude, where's the love?

Seriously, I can't wait to check it out. I don't like the fact that you had to make an adjustment to the flange to get it to fit. But, if it works, not a big deal.

Tell us a little more about sound, how does it compare to stock? idle and wot, little louder? lower tone? etc... thanks!

for me, it's between the Fujitsubo or the Stillen...

JD,

Sorry dude, I'm glad I didn't put on my CAI too. Then you would have been twice as mad. I will be out tomorrow. If you want to meet up I would be glad to let you check it out. Give me a call and we can set something up.

Howard,
It's the stock sound magnified. Not sure how many times but I can damn sure hear it over the radio which I couldn't do before. With the windows open it's the bomb...very throaty. 1st through 4th just growls. Awesome at high RPMs. All I can say is thumbs up so far for the Stillen. I just took some photos hope to have them up soon.

fellas, i just got through hangin' out with mark. let me say that the exhaust is absolutely awesome. from outside of the car, it sounds very similar to the stock exhaust, only meaner and louder. from the inside (he let me drive it) it is intoxicating. now granted i havent been in a stock Z, but from all i have heard, they sound exactly like the exhaust in the coupe. as the revs climb, the car sounds for all of the world like an exotic. the exhaust is very fitting with the character of the car. very nice looks too. wonder if stillen is gonna do anything for us G owners?

mark, i can't wait to hear it in person!

as for the stock exhaust, there's no question ... i would keep it. if for some reason you decide to sell the car or something happens, you can put the stock exhaust back on. it's definetly worth the incovenience of storing it, imho.

Thanks for the post Rick and thanks for the chance to finally drive a standard....and thanks for the chance to get smoked by it. Very nice G, that baby screams luxury. We need to get a Z and G meet going. Great company and a nice drive. Great way to end a weekend. Looking forward to doing it again.

Shawn,
I got stock tires, stock exhaust, stock intake. The way I'm going I will have another stock Z in my garage in a year! On a side note...How do you like your coilovers?

Selski12
I think I can get my hands on a camera that will do mpgs tomorrow. I'll try and get some audio.

Default All my pics came out blurry

In case you wondered what I looked like blurry. Will try again tomorrow.

Shawn,
Had my mod shop try to sell me a tein coilover set for around 1600. Wanted to hear an opinion on if it was worth it no matter who makes it.

Hey Vova sorry to hear about your problem with the exhaust glad to see though it was only a minor setback....Speaking of which I was at another Z forum where I noticed another post about the Stillen exhaust, just not as fortunate as yours. So bad in fact that the customer dug up Stillen's BBB report pretty interesting and disturbing all in the same. If I were you Vova I would consider myself lucky. BTW which CAI are or did you go with? Best of luck.

3 FIVE O Z

Wow. Thanks for the post. Little late though
I think people would be well served to check out the BBB site before buying. Believe me I'm glad it worked too. With the damage I did to the boxes trying to get the system loaded into my car and to the Mechanic before they closed I would have never been able to ship it back.

I went with the AEM CAI. Got the wrong color though and have to send it back. I'm not having very good luck with my mail order mods.

Does the exhaust drone on the freeway? Also how much was it?

I think I got one of the last $1100 ones. Think that they are round 1200 now. Excellent note on the highway. Nice growl.

no problem, the pleasure was mine (on the post). i think that the Z might get a bad rap as far as the interior is concerned. i didnt notice any sub-standard trim. of course, i was too busy enjoying the drive. with the exhaust note and slot-car handling, i was in heaven. like i told you, 2 similar cars but 2 very different cars indeed. now if i could only nail down those 2nd and 3rd shifts
