What Y-Pipe is recommended (quiet) if I go w/ the Tanabe Touring?

The tanabe y-pipe will likely mate up with the tanabe exhaust better than any other y-pipe. It will not dramatically change the sound.

It is not the cheapest, but if I were buying the medalion touring, I'd almost certainly buy the tanabe y-pipe to go with it (my opinion)

I'll vouch for that. It really is about the same as OEM volume-wise, and sounds a LOT meaner!

Invidia G200, sounds almost stock, much quieter than Nismo, and has a nice look to it with the Ti tips..

I am in the Philadelphia area so if someone has something they think I should hear I would appreciate it.

Why does my stock exhuast need to be replaced? I ran over a cement block that was sitting in the middle of a hospital parking lot for some reason. Only damage was crushed pipe between cat and muffler.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Jonathan,

I had all the same concerns, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I did plenty of research and I ordered the Helix exhaust:

For the money, it can't be beat. I also ordered a y-pipe and I'm very happy with the set up. Think Nismo for half the price, and it's barely louder than stock.

I had the Nismo exhaust, and my friend has the Borla. His Borla is quieter than my Nismo, no question. I've driven his car, and he's driven mine, and we both agree that the Nismo is louder. I loved the sound of the Nismo, though. Very smooth, and the look is fantastic. My only problem with the Nismo was a droning at freeway speeds. It was fairly loud (but tolerable), but got worse once I installed high flow cats. That freeway droning was what made me eventually get rid of the exhaust. It was just terrible during long road trips. For what it's worth, my friend's Borla does not have that same droning at freeway speeds.

If you want something just slightly louder than stock, try some high flow cats and an intake on the otherwise stock exhaust. The cats will make the stock exhaust tone slightly louder (without really altering the tone) and the intake will add a great sound at full throttle that can't be beat. Might be a good start, regardless, and you can do an aftermarket exhaust later if that setup isn't quite loud enough for you.

I don't know I'm having trouble deciding...seems like the Tanabe may actually be quieter than the Nismo. I really wish I could hear both because they are roughly the same price.

Tanabe is a little bit better looking as well IMO.

I'm ordering today so I will let you know which it is.

Anyone know where to get the best prices on either system?

You'll have to search for a price. Might want to try JSC Speed or World One.

Yes, I have, and sorry Robert, but I'm going w/ the Nismo . It comes down to what will get here the fastest, and no one had the Tanabe Touring in stock which means it will take a few weeks to get.

I can have the Nismo by the end of this week! Not to mention saving a few hundred at the same time.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

So, what exactly are you saying? You regret installing the Nismo? If so, why (specifically)?

I wish!!! Sorry if I was "pushing" the Tanabe but I just feel like its a great buy. But I also feel the Nismo is a great buy too.

Good choice! I'm sure you'll be happy with it! Where are you purchasing it from and how much, if you don't mind me asking. Understanbe on the wait time and saving money. You have to meet your needs. I think sometimes people forget about that.
