Default cut interior posts off of upper plenum?

What do you guys think about cutting off the 6 interior posts that carry the 6 bolts...what do they really help to do? Doesn't seem like they'd help much to seal the plenum...any downsides?

I'm thinking it'd help with airflow (less restirctions) and will also add a bit of volume.

I think if you did that, you would most likely crack the plenum when you went to tighten down those bolts since there wouldnt be enough support there...

where and what needs support? I would actually think we're more likley to crack the plenum by over-tightening the 6 bolts (it'll flex the middle section of the upper plenum slightly downwards)

thanks for the response...

If you were going to do that, you might as well just seal the holes in the plenum and lower manifold and omit the 6 bolts altogther; it's not like the OEM Aluminum plenum is going to flex under normal engine operation. No idea if it'll do anything (I doubt it). The Crawford omits 4 of the posts/bolts and keeps two.

just looked up the Crawford plenum...not sure why they even left the 2 posts on theirs.

If I do this, I would cut them off completley and add bondo to make it smooth on the interior/exterior.

bondo on the inside of your engine? Are you serious?

Wouldnt you have to get a welder (that can work with aluminum) to seal the holes?

Just doesnt seem like bondo would be safe, sensible or even an option. Youll want a meterial that has the same characteristics as aluminum and can withstand the (negative)pressures inside the plenum.

I would bet you wouldn't see any difference in engine output. Those posts can't occupy much volume. Having said that, the APS plenum has just 2 interior posts, and it does make more power, however I believe that's from the added height at the front, hence you have to use a different strut bar. And you would have to weld or bondo 6 holes = ghetto.
