Default magnaflow rasp?

Is magnaflow really as raspy as it sounds on the website's clips? it doesnt sound very good at all. I am interested in it because i think it is one of the better looking exhausts, tip wise. But how does it sound in person? can anyone describe it? if it is raspy i do NOT want it. thankss

There are not many owners who have installed magnaflow exhaust system in their Zs. However, there are owners who have installed magnaflow x-pipe mufflers with their after-market system to eliminate the rasp on their exhaust system. Search this forum with the word "magnaflow" and you'll get your answers.

And probably for good reason, from what I remember the Magniflow is called a Cat Back in the descriptions but is really a Y Back, from the prices I have seen, it lacks value considering the stock Y is probably the most restrictive part of the entire stock exhaust.

The only way you can really retain the stock Z sound is having an exhaust system similar to the stock design. This includes a y-pipe, b-pipe with resonator, and a single muffler.

All the true dual exhaust systems like my evo2 get a bit deeper and change the exhaust sound characteristics a bit.

But the Magnaflow is a single type system the retains the factory Y pipe. The only thing it changes is the B and back box.

The philosophical question is:
"If a exhaust is made and nobody buys it, does it really have a sound?"

I have seen and heard one of these in the wild, on the SB on the left in this picture.

I don't remember a rasp, it might have been a little deeper than stock but actually, I don't remember it at all. I guess it did not make much of an impression. I think the owner was beaker02, although I think I remember him selling it or something. I don't know, its been a while.

You can eliminate rasp by adding resonators. Usually resonators remove the high pitch frequency in exhaust sounds, and mufflers remove the low. I would love to hear the magnaflow in person though.

If you're interested in a custom install instead of the Magnaflow kit, read the thread below:
