Default flowmaster exhaust..... redneck?

ok so i've read so much my eyes hurt, but i couldn't find if some one has tried to install a custom a.k.a. redneck exhaust, such as mabey two flowmaster exhausts with piping. This has worked on all my other vehicles, even got a better dyno result with my old 300z vs the performance one made for my vehicle. just wanted a little info if available, not sure how it would respond, backpressure an issue? Any info would be great.

It might actually sound good, flowmaster mufflers have always created a deep sound.

Flowmaster mufflers are pretty cheap, i imagine you could get a decent used set for dirt cheap and fabricate a custom for cheap. And if you don't like it, atleast you didn't pay alot for it.

I'd say hit up a junkyard and head for where they keep the Mustangs. Sad but true, theres plenty of wrecked Mustangs out there that have flowmasters.

(me = ex-mustang driver)

If i remember flow master 40 series are around 40$ each from nearly any muffler shop. I had one 40 series with a 3" pipe on my 928 from the manifolds back and it was extreamly loud.

Go with Magnaflow instead. There are a couple of forum members who have installed a Magnaflow muffler and they're happy with it. Fairly inexpensive mod for less than $200.

I'm using Dynomax super turbo or some such name with a Magnaflow resonated x-pipe on my custom true-dual setup. It sounds really, really good. Smooth, low tone, slightly louder than stock, absolutely no rasp, and definetely an improvement in performance over stock. The only thing is that, with the particular design of muffler I got (center in, offset out) the shop could not line them up symmetrically because of the way the pipes had to be bent within the confines under the car. They said if the mufflers were offset in/offset out, then they would have been able to get them lined up perfectly. So, make sure that what you get will fit, and get offset/offset.

Flowmaster does everything exscept what the name implies. And that's flow. Coming from a world of domestic V8's i can tell you that flowmaster is usually nowhere near the top of anybody's list. They can sound very nice on a mustang, and some other cars. But as far as flow is concerned, there are much better mufflers. Magnaflow comes to mind.

+1 heard the same from some domestic buddies.

One very knowledgable freind of mine who works at the local domestic performance shop high reccomends Dyno-max though

yup, but if you were to do it, I would go with the 70 series (i think?) its the one made for camaro's. Its like a 40 series that is setup like the stock Z muffler with on inlet and an outlet on each end...

^^^ Right on! That should make you the envy of all your friends, a Camaro muffler on a Z. Then you can get some pickup tires and be a real redneck.

I had dynomax bullets on my camaro. They look like a piece of pipe, with a 3" hollow space through and the muffling part around it. Flows like a test pipe, but quiets the car down quite a bit, and gives it a nice sound.

Flow masters have chambers in them, they are not a straight through design.
