Default Aem Cold Air Intake

hey everyone, I recently put on a CAI (AEM) and love it. that is until it rains. I also installed the water bypass valve for protection. the problem is whenever it rains, the mass air flow sensor goes haywire, because the filter gets wet. i have also put a shield around the filter, to protect it form the inner fender, (the water that comes through the vent holes) and still it gets soaked outside of swichting to a short ram does anyone have any ideas. any help would be greatly appreciated, when is it dry out kick ***, the sound is nice, i would hate to remove it,thanks peace

I was thinking about getting the AEM CAI, so I'm interested to know what others have done about this.

What happens when the MAF goes haywire??

when it gets even the lightest amount of water on it, the car falls on itself, anything above 3200rpm and more than 30% throttle you can call her a stumbling drunk (the car) basically it sucks to drive, but man i'm tellin you the intake looks good and the sound will make you floor it a lot more often

The water by pass valve only works if the whole intake filter is submerged in water like IE driving into a lake. Otherwise dont count on it too much.

If I had the slightest indication that a CAI was ingesting water I would dump it yesterday.

I've had the AEM CAI for about 1 1/2 years and I've never (knock on wood) had a problem with the water. I guess everyone experiences different problems

If you are going with a panel type filter i personally like the Blitz one because it does not need oil, doesnt kill MAF's, and doesnt sacrifice filteration.

The Blitz filter is cotton -- is it a permanent filter or is it replaced every xx miles? For $32 I'm assuming it's permanent.

Its supposed to be replaced on 15-20K mile intervals, just throw away and no mess, no washing and no oiling. Even though the K&N is suppose to last a lifetime they usually get torn up and ugly by the time you hit 30-40K anyways. I also noticed that many people coat too much oil on it after washing it, in which runs a high risk of MAF problems or failure.

cai's might not dyno that good compared to the popcharger but they perform well.....its not fair to dyno a cai cause the car is not in motion.....but when the car is on the move it sucks up cold air....

Does anyone have tangible evidence of this?
